I know this is a very old system - unfortunately, the one I have keeps
intermittently showing "Power Trouble" and beeps! Does anyone know where to
start checking this portion of the panel. Or better yet, anyone know where
I can get the installation manual for this model?

Two things to consider right off the bat. It may be low batteries as the
other poster indicated, but only if the battery charger module is the
supervised one. There were several different chargers available for this
panel, one of which didn't supervise the batteries at all..

The second thing that comes to mind is to check the AC voltage coming in.
There is a brownout detection circuit on these panels which is theoretically
set for around 105 Volts AC. Low AC voltage can cause the panel to go in
and out of trouble.

Replaced the batteries, and no more power troubles. the other batteries were
only 1yr old!! The system though has another problem now - whenever an
alarm is triggered, the alarm led's light up, but the horns do not
activate - the Alarm Silence led is lit even though the alarm silence button
is not pressed. Any ideas?

As long as that Alarm Silence LED is on, you aren't going to get your
horns/strobes to fire. System Reset didn't extinguish the Silence LED?

Also, if you are draining batteries in 1 year, you should check the current
drain on your panel. It may be overloaded (in Standby and/or Alarm).

System Reset does not clear the Alarm Silence. I called in a tech, who had
never seen this problem before. He called someone who told him that it was
the Alarm Silence switch (you have to order the whole switch panel and
transformers because they are all wired together). Now they (the tech's
company) want my first and second born children as payment!!
Coming from a engineering background, I am skeptical about the switch panel
being bad - to me it sounds more like something on a board having shorted
(or opened) so that the Alarm Silence signal is constantly active. I would
suspect the main control board first. If I had schematics, I could narrow
it down further, rather than have to go with a tech who would probably just
change parts to find the problem. I wouldn't even mind eating crow if it is
the switch panel - but it will take 4 to 6 weeks to get here!!
BTW, any ideas on what the price should be for a replacement contrl board -
ballpark?, and where I can get it?
