Greetings all I am new to this so please be kind. My plasma cutter blew the other day , a replacement pcb was £1050 plus vat (whole cutter itself was £1100 new) so I thought I would have a go myself . The trouble is I cannot find any schematic of the pcb to even tell me what to swap out. I know what is wrong(at least I certainly know one part) but it has split so I cant see what type/strength it should be.
Its a Lincoln electric pc210 . I have tried uploading pictures but it keeps saying error in upload?
There is a black 50 p sized piece that has become hot and shattered and is arcing against a black box with FRA1NRA written on it. I have posted the link below.
Trying to repair it has to be worth a shot before I have to invest in a new one.

Resize your photos to smaller.
Maintenance data on many items such as this is never released by the manufacturer.
Obviously to protect their spares business.

Not a lot one can do if the ic is beyond any recognition.
About the only chance is if you find someone with the same model/type who is prepared to offer up any info. Probably a million to one against if you are lucky.

Looks like a varistor of some type and the FRA device seems to be a relay.
No chance of a wider shot with higher resolution..??
Normally not a lot of device detail on the board but never know.
Sure there are not still some markings on the varistor...?

Okay I had a look inside a year younger machine that my own and the varistor ?has slightly different numbers. The new machine is NTnew cutter.JPG old cutter.JPG 10 1831 , my machine has NTC 10 1517.

This is not a varistor but an NTC, a type of thermistor. Oftne used as inrush current limiter. Make seems to be Epcos/TDK. Resistance is 10 Ω, possibly one of these. Check the dimensions of your component against the datasheet. If the dimensions match, it is worth a try,

NTC 10 indicates a 10 Ω NTC.
The number below the line seems to be a batch number.
No more info is given on these pellets (as per datasheet), so size alone is the next best indicator.

I would like to thank the people that responded to my problem with the above , I had no idea at the start and to be honest not a lot more now. However I got 6 NTC's all slightly different from a company called Farnells , and through more luck than judgement I replaced the NTC and the machine is working fine.
Just wondering though when I sent the PCB to Industrial electronics repair, before I came on the forum , they said it was potted so wouldn't even touch it. Anyway thanks again
