I recently bought two Skybells for two of my doors. As long as I have a mechanical ringer, I should be able to just replace my bell button with a Skybell. I tried that and it works. I want to put two in parallel, so each will ring the bell. The original transformer is 16vac and 10va. Each Skybell wants 10-36vac and 10va. I found a 24vac transformer with 40va. Am I correct that the two Skybells draw too much current for the original transformer? Is there anything wrong with using the new transformer, even though it has too high a rating of 40va?

The original transformer may not be able to provide enough current with the two bells but is unlikely to be damaged if current is drawn for only a second or so.

The 40VA transformer will be plenty strong enough for the job so you can use it.

Great! Thank you. Would there be any benefit to use a 1 amp fuse in the circuit?

A fuse is always a good thing. It depends on the load as to whether 1 amp will be enough. A bell may take much larger peak currents than the average.
