Does anyone know if there is a way to mix a 3.5mm audio line into a optical sound line? I have a sound bar and from my TV I have connected a optical cable to the soundbar. However, I have a Amazon Echo Dot which i would like to connect to the same speaker. Although the sound bar has another 3.5mm input, it doesnt make practical sense to be changing the source on the soundbar everytime I want to talk to Amazon Alexa. So I want to mix the two channels if possible. Otherwise The only other option is to put a separate speaker for the echo dot.

What you call 'optical sound' may be Toslink. And it carries digital signals.
What you call '3.5mm' may be 'line level' analog audio.
There is two flavors in both, monophonic and stereo.
I know peanuts about Echo dot and if wants monophonic or not; but to mix audio signals, better convert the digital one to analog and then mix them.

Thanks, instead of mixing the toslink and the 3.5 analog line, i'm thinking to add another pair of speakers for the analog line which will also have toslink input. The toslink output from my TV currently goes into the soundbar. If i wanted to split the toslink connection so that it goes into the soundbar as well as the other pair of speakers too, will a toslink splitter like this work: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282637871837

Now that you have a better understanding of Toslink, digital and analog and stereo and... you have the tools to play with splitters, converters, adapters to reach your wishes.
There should be no mysteries.
