Need help determining correct capacitor for small gear motor

Purchased this small motor for a project. It included an old capacitor per photo . I connected it and motor runs but overheats quickly as thermal protection turns it off. I have attached following photo showing what I am dealing with. FYI the colored wires from motor are black,white and blue and a green grounding wire. I know very little about capacitor start motors. Dont know if it needs a start/run capacitor etc. Hoping someone can suggest a correct capacitor from motor label info. If so I would greatly appreciate the help, Thanks, Harmon T

Nameplate says 20uf...you have 17.5uf...may not affect it that much but....who knows.
Are you running the motor on 115v ac...?
What are your wire connections, draw a diagram.

Yes, I am running it on 115 volts per label. Attached is diagram i followed. The capacitor I previously attached is very old but not bulging at top . Considering this new capacitor that I am attaching. Curious if this motor has a centrifugal switch. It may have other issues other than capacitor. Motor appears to have 7/23/1982 manufacture date so who knows. Going to take it apart, see if it has bugs etc inside and anything obvious. Hope the attachments are legible. Bulging is normally associated with electrolytic capacitors not paper or poly caps as you have there.
Only test which would confirm is a cap test out of circuit.

Bluejets,thanks for your reply. New capacitor fixed it,just wish I could reverse to ccw. Made a larger pottery wheel. Right handers like ccw but will adjust. Guess I could go to the southern hemisphere .

The plate holding information about your motor the model number. I'm concerned if you look closely where there's a slash or a crease going through a letter it looks like the letter B.

In the center of an induction motor is a rotor. This rotor is comprised of permeable iron and an aluminum circuit winding. This aluminum winding causes the motor to resist rapid magnetic field changes. This means that whatever field the motor senses is the one it will follow. Because of this, it's possible to reverse the direction of the motor by reversing the electromagnetic field .
You can reverse the rotation of a single phase capacitor start motor, reverse the direction (polarity) of the starter windings.
This will make the magnetic field change directions and the motor will have no choice but to follow; it doesn't care. But I must warn you my statement is made out of theory I've never done this myself but the physics involved is basic and I'm good at basic. It's a starting point for you to research. With my limited guidance I am sure you will do well, good luck to you.
