I have this machine from the local dump and wanted to give it a try in
repairing.
Printer works like a charm, scanner reports scanner lamp defective, but the
lamp lights up.
Maybe the actual scan element is bad?
Is there any way to fix it, or a way to find a reasonable priced replacement
part?
Thanks

Send it to the manufacturer and pay for a refurb replacment device. Service
literature and parts are almost totally non-existant for these products.
Cost of shipping and out of warrenty replacment may be almost as much as
buying a new item at Best Buy or Circuit City.

Highly likely the lamp isn't producing enough light in the right part of
the spectrum, common problem with scanners.

Ummm, possible, but I would have thought this would have manifested as
stripes on the scan, might be worth checking the connections though.

Errrm, HP are highly unlikely to sell that part, I've had to scrap £1000
worth of HP inkjet because they wouldn't sell the heater bulb (1200XL
with postscript) You might find one second user, you might also be able
to find an equivalent as there are several companies that specialise in
CCFL etc. lamps now.
