I recently acquired a neat little Onkyo setup. However the Cassette player seems to have an issue powering on. Under normal operation, when plugged in, there will be a red LED indicating standby mode. Then you press the power button on the front panel and the unit should power up. However, when plugged in, the LED does not illuminate, nor does the unit power on when you press the power button.

One thing I have found is that the unit "twitches" as I can hear the mechanism for the player move when I unplug it. Also when I hear the twitch, the LED illuminates. It's only when I'm unplugging the unit from AC that it does that. I'm not an electronics expert or even knowledgeable. So I would REALLY appreciate any help. I acquired a diagram or two, but my ability to interpret is lacking.

Thanks!

I had similar case. It doesn’t turn on, but if i remove the consent. The standby led flashes once ( probably using led or diode to protect the circuit from inductance kickback). I didn’t had time to fix it the sub-board(standby led and small display) in front side of cassette player, there was burned part in display. Replace or fix it would solve the issue. Not transformer, not main board. If standby lef flashes moment the plug is removed. Discharge the capacitors and check front side board first.
