Replacement laptop LCD has weird white border

My son just replaced the LCD in his sony laptop and now have a problem
that I don't quite understand. When I power up the laptop into windows,
I get a 1/2" hazy white border on all four edges of the monitor. Any
guesses what could cause this?

Does the border obsuce part of the normal desktop or is everything smaller?

i had similar problem long ago, memory is vague on that issue but
solution involved resetting display properties. is replacement a
different brand?

Without seeing it myself, it is difficult to say. But, a common cause
is the backlights shinning through on the edges. It is also possible to
have a defective display.

Perhaps the replacement screen is NOT an exact replacement?
Perhaps it is defective.
