i have a sealed attic due to my new home having spray foam insulation throughout, so the attic temperature only varies @ 10 degrees from the inside temperature and the attic is also relatively clean compared to an open attic. Would it be acceptable to install a standard smoke detector in this space, or am I asking for false alarms?

A high quality smoke detector is not fooled by dust; it detects ionized particles that are a byproduct of combustion. Should be ok.
