sony MHC-1600 cd drawer problem

I have a Sony MHC-1600 mini Hi-Fi system. I have not used the CD player for some time and the drawer will not open when the button is pressed. Any suggestions for correcting this fault?

Can you hear a slight "whirr" inside when you press the button? If so it could be a broken gear or belt.

there does not appear to be any sound.

Ok, sounds like you'll need a service manual then, and be prepared to do some measurements.

I'd open it up and try to move the drawer motor by hand, and measure if it gets any voltage.
