I have a digital speedometer that is part of my ATV

i want the data from the speedometer about the speed of my ATV to be available to a Raspberry Pi or arduino.
not sure how to do so.

what i have planned to do was take apart the speedometer wires, locate the speed signal wire then convert it to a number in m/s or any units i want.

i need help with what to use if anyone has any suggestion.

hi and welcome to EP :)

the first suggestion is for much more info

make and model of the speedo, some photos of the circuit board(S) with any fly wires labelled so we know where they go to etc

thx dave

http://www.daymak.com/sasquatch/grunt.php
is the exact ATV i have

The pictures dont have much just the wires and what it says on the back of the speedometer (Chinese writing with numbers) (the manual with the ATV had nothing in it related to the speedometer =( )

for the speedometer itself there are 3 wires that control the speed, (i assumed signal, power and ground)

what I am trying to do is find the signal wire, then get the speed and use it for an automatic braking system using a huge system, but for now i was wondering if i can get my hands on the speed straight from the speedometer to the controller (raspberry pi)

I really hope its doable.

i sort of figured out some of it
3 wires, ground, power and signal
i can find my signal wire from other 2 wire with a volt meter.

then using the pulses and circumference of wheel you can find speed. =D i know this much so far.
