Hi :)
I have an idea for some fun electronics. It's called "The Laugh Machine".
The Laugh Machine is made of 2 parts. There's a microphone, and a 1 second delay and amplifier/speaker unit.
To use the Laugh Machine, put it in front of your friend, and switch it on. Tell him to laugh.
The Laugh Machine will store his laugh and play it back to him a second later.
If there's anybody else handy they'll rush in to be part of the laugh... which adds to itself every second and results in an explosion of fun!
It was, once-upon-a-time, possible to set up a Laugh Machine using 2 telephones, the delay of the network, and a guitar amplifier... but telephone engineers have no sense of humour and have spent considerable effort on Anti-Laugh-Machine software and now I have to design one from scratch.
Meh.
Any ideas out there?

You need a recorder IC. One way is to use a GROVE sound recorder and Arduino.
You can use a recording and playback circuit if you don't want to code.

This effect was done many years ago using magnetic tape by music artists such as Steve Reich (Different Trains), John Adams (Guitars I think) and most significantly to me (as an older person...) Brian May's masterpiece "The Prophets Song" where two (multiple, or extra loops of tape?) mag tape recorders were used to produce the, whats know as the "Counterpoint" effect, which Freddy used to great effect. Sorry for the interdiction! :) Oh, and tape recorders back in the early days of mag tape using a single piece of tape (sometimes described as a "Mobius loop", but not quite) with separate play-back heads to introduce a variable delay for call centres/BBC call-in studios.

Yes, a recorder IC... a very practical solution. So how come part of my response is boredom?
I think there's very little room for mischievous ingenuity in life, lately.

I do sort of like this one. It's good because it can have obvious mechanical parts, which people enjoy watching.
You've somehow made me think of Edison's wax recording technology. :)
