Good Day:

My 13 inch RCA TV set (manufactured in 1987) has a great picture on
all channels from 2 through 64. For reason(s) unknown to me, the set
will not tune in channels higher than channel 64, while all other sets
of (newer TV sets mind you)in the home do. For example, channel 74 is
pure static when I attempt to tune it in.

The integrity of the coaxial cable line is fine as it tuned properly
when tested on other sets in the home.

1. Is my set (model EMR341WR) capable of tuning in more than 64
channels?
2. If yes to above, what repair advice have you?

Many thanks.

If it's a TX85 or 86, you lose channels in the mid-60's. I have one in
the bedroom. It's also not remote-capable, so the VCR works great as a
tuner. I have to get up off my butt to change the volume, though. :)

Actually, my set has a remote control that still functions. I don't
know if my set is a TX 85 or 86. There is an XL100 label on the
plastic door flap to the set's control buttons.

Ideally, I'd like to tune in Comedy Central on channel 74 so I can
watch The Daily Show.

Sorry mate, APD, that is, As per design, during that peroid of time, either
the VCR or CATV should remedy that problem..

Does it have separate VHF and UHF inputs? If it does, try connecting
the cable to the UHF input. If it works, use a splitter to connect
the cable to both inputs. Cable channels 65-94 are the same as UHF
channels 14 and up, so it uses the UHF part of the tuner for these
cable channels.
