I have to build a science project for my physics final this fall semester and was wondering if it is possible to build a safe Van De Graaff Generator using the fan motor of an outdoor condenser unit? The fan specs are: HP - 1/6, VOLT- 208-230, RMP - 1075, HZ - 60, AMP - 1.0, PH 1

Ideally, this fan motor would run the belt on generator and I also want to implement a thermostat as a switch to turn the generator on and off.

I doubt you'll get anything out of that motor as it would be a fractional hp split phase motor, not suitable at all as a generator.

Oh, I see, you want this as the drive motor.
Again not suitable, low torque.
Not enough oomph.

Use an old drill.
