Hi!

I'm converting an ATX pc power supply to a lab power supply. My concern is which wire/cable gauge or size to use for the 5v, 12v and gnd .

I have cable rated at 700/500v but I assume this is for AC.

Can one safely use this with DC?

/D

Wire gauge is important for the amount of current it can carry without significant heating. If you are going to pull much current from the power supply then you need thick wires, otherwise normal gauge will work.

OK would 5 amps be considered much?

ok then , use a 1.5mm^2 wire for 12V/5A source.
