Hi, I am new to this forum and would appreciate some help in getting my Yamaha RX-A810 working properly again.

I bought this unit about two years ago with no audio issue, but as it is in excellent condition all round, I would like to see if I can salvage it.

The unit powers up, and all functions seem to work perfectly. The Tuner tunes to stations, the content on HDMI port is displayed properly on screen, the menus display on connected TV screen, and even the network connects via the wifi adaptor and I can control it with my phone via the app. I have tried to update firmware to the latest available version 1.80, and all goes well until it gives me an "Error! 0020" which, from reading on the web seems to be a DSP error, which sort of makes sense. I have tried normal RCA audio source on some AV inputs as well, but still no luck.

The service manual (downloaded from elektrotanya.com) for this only has 6 pages (unlike most other Yamaha ones that have the full version, so that is the first challenge.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

What happens when you place it in tuner mode and try to listen for audio thru HEADPHONES . . . . any audio then ?

When I plug in the headphones, I can hear the relay physically switching the audio signal over, but no sound from headphones from any source, including Tuner.

I have just worked through the self diagnostic function on the receiver, and even in section A7 where the speakers can be tested with internally generated test tone, still no audio. In light of the "Error! 0020" that was indicated after trying to update firmware, I tested section dealing with the "Digital PCB Check", it fails only on section C1-7 DSP1: Bus NG. All other indicators are normal. (I used the RX-A820 manual in the absence of a service manual for RX-A810).

Having a look at section S4 ROM VERSION/CHECKSUM
DSP1 VERSION - S4-8 D1 - V -------- - No record here
DSP1 CHECKSUM - S4-9 D1 - S -------- - No record here

All seem to indicate that the DSP1 is the issue.

@edrlcnoc I really hope you get an email notification for this reply as I'm having the same issue and yours is the only information I could find on the internet - did you figure it out? Thanks!

Hi korobeiniki2
Sadly I have given up on trying to resolve my issue. I believe it is the DSP chip, and not worth trying to replace this as a replacement (if available) will cost around $50, and even then you have to remove the old one and install the new one in quite a sophisticated process - still not sure whether the issue will be solved. It is still sitting in a box, so thanks for the reminder - will eventually have to move it along to someone for spares.

I have since experienced similar failures on a number of Yamaha receivers (I only dabble with Yamaha AVRs), so I guess it is the luck of the draw. Specifically a RXV673, RXV675, RXS601 and one other.

HEY YOU'SE GUYS !

Question 1
. . . . .If I am being a FULLY . . . . . Certified and Doctorate Degreed dabbl-OR . . . .then, are you both being dabbl-EES

Question 2 . . . . . If there is no speaker audio output . . . . at what earlier point is it getting lost ?

Tell you whuts I'm a gonna' do !
I'm a jes' gonna throw you a bone and submit this "grandfather design scheme" that was purportedly being the master of your current RX-A810 Yamahauler units.
Now fully brace yerselfs! . . . since its being 11,549,440 bytes HEAVEE! . . . . . . HERE IT COMES!

Then initially go to my supplied referencing at its top left corner and type in [66] of its [114] available pages . . . . .then hit ENTER and RUN like hell . . . . . since we're not exactly sure what will happen then/next !
After the dense smoke and arc flashing then all clears way, expect to see, at the very center of that page . . . system block diagrams .
Now within I.C.266 DAC . . . . . is where the regurgitive magic of processed digital is recreating analog audio output from its right sides pin outs.
Test those outputs for analog audio presence . If audio is found present there, the flow is then going to the right to the 19 pin CB264 connector .
Those audio signals pass on to I.C. 21 where inter switching options and volume level control action is performed .
5 derived different audio outputs then flow across and out of the right side of that chip . . .with a chiming in of " ME TOO! " from the newly created subwoofer Low Freq audio output at pin 14.
Monitor those audio lines to the right thru mute stages and their input into the
two hybrid STK430 audio power amplifiers. (SUBWOOF needs its own power amp)
That should get expected and progressively amplified audio up to the speaker cut out relays, considering there is no leaked DC voltage monitored on those speaker lines .
NOW . . . .Go ye forth and trace that audio signal down those predescribed paths.

I'm now standing by at the HELP machine and . . . . .
