Yanmaha 735 Skips

I have aYamaha cdc-705 cd changer that skips randomly from one track to
another. It may play 4 minutes of a song and skip or only a minute. I
cleaned the lens but that had no effect. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

These had some problems with teeth broken out of a plastic gear, as I
recall. The tracking gain was out of whack due to problems with the pickup.
The pickup and gear needed replacement, then adjustments made. I think there
was also a resistor added to the circuit.

I checked Grandata and they don't list an assembly for the 705. Most of the
Yamaha's seem to use the KSS210A, do you know if the 705 also uses it?

Thank you

I'm pretty sure it was the KSS-210. A KSS-212 or KSS-150 would also work.

P.S.

Don't forget - if you replace the pickup, there is that little solder "blob"
on the pickup pc board which must be unsoldered in order for the new pickup
to function.

It was a KSS-150 which I replaced with a KSS-210A. This fixed the skipping
issue. However, sometimes when attempting to play a CD, it will spin up,
flash DISC and open. If I close the tray it will then play the CD
flawlessly.
