"House" numbered parts

OK, I've tried the obvious :)

I have been challenged with finding some specs for 2 On Semiconductor "house numbered" parts.

They are SJF2008LFRB and SURF319LFRB. Apparently these come in a TO-220 package.

My best advice was that this was not going to be an easy task. Can anyone assist?

Do you know WHO the devices were manufactured for?
Maybe you might get lucky if we know what company the parts were made for.
I know it's a long-shot, but I've got the last PRINTED set of ON Semiconductor data books at home (where I'm not AT, right now). The ON Semiconductor numbering system is pretty unusual. ('NL' prefixes on transistors and stuff). I'll take a look at the data books when I get home, and see if I can find anything similar to your markings. If I do, I'll post an additional note later.

Bad news. I'm racking my brains looking through the ON data books I've got.
First, I have Revision 7, May 2000 Thyristors. There's a really nice note in the front of the book saying THIS revision, has dropped data sheets ('from Rev. 6 Data Books') for the S2800 series. So my bet is, your numbers are actual ON part numbers from short-lived production runs. If you can find somebody with Rev 6 or earlier data books, you may be able to find the first device, which is probably a thyristor.
In Rev 4, Jan 2003 Rectifier data book, there are a lot of 'xURx' references, but no SURF. I'm betting the SURF prefix is an early production rectifier of some type.
Sorry I can't nail this down. But it looks to me like your numbers are actual ON part numbers, and I just wanted to let you know. They were dropped from the data books I have, prior to the year 2000.
They list a website to check data sheet releases as http://onsemi.com
But I don't know if they'll support old data.
The only other comment I've got, is that it is extremely difficult to navigate these data books, and my guess is, if ON Semiconductor isn't in trouble yet, they soon will be.

I've just found this part!!

From On Semi's own document that unfortunately can't be looked up via their search for obsolete products. :-(

For anyone else that may be interested (and I suspect there's not a lot of us) look here.

The practical upshot is that it's equivalent to a MJF6668G (which itself is obsolete!) but can be found around the place with its datasheet.

It's a PNP 100V 10A darlington with a collector/emitter diode and resistors connecting the base to the emitter.

Also found a similar document for the SURF319LFRB. Unfortunately it lists it as not having a replacement :(

And yes, it's clear (thanks shrtrnd) they're not house numbers. Looks like I need someone with a c1998 On Semi rectifier data book

Sorry it took so long to get your information. Whenever I tried in the past to get information on the ON Semiconductor website, it was a complete waste of time.
They may have gotten better, yesterday I got on the stie and they had a 'live chat'
feature. I had a 3-lead device marked 'J31C'
I didn't even know what kind of device it was. Somehow the live chat person got me
an answer (even though they weren't sure it was right). It was the obsolete part
'MJD31C'
How in the hell I ever would've found MJD31C with a part marked J31C, I don't know.
I detest the numbering system they adopted when Motorola broke-up.
Anyhow, thanks for the info on the place to find some more of their obsolete parts.

Yeah, I've found a few more sites listing datasheets, and several more sites listing sites that have datasheets.

I also found a person with PDF copies of many of the Motorola/OnSemi databooks.

I'll add these to the "but before you ask" thread when I have time.

It is very interesting that Google found these documents sometime between when I started this thread and now.

You probably know this, but I've found several of my posts from electronicspoint on the
Google search engine (that I didn't personally put there). I assumed somebody from here
listed them on Google, ...but maybe the Google search engine found them itself, and
just added them to it's database, based on the part numbers I was looking for.
In fact, I've seen electronicspoint posts from several other people from years ago, inquiring about
specific part numbers. I often wondered if it was too late to respond if I know the
answer.
Maybe somebody who knew your answer, responded to one of your old post that
showed-up on Google.

Google just crawls this site and adds stuff to the index.

It does it for this sire amazingly quickly.

Try googling for "Leprechaun Parthenogenesis" and see how long it takes to show up.

Thanks *steve*, the guy knows what I'm looking for (and can't usually find).
I've got piles of the old Motorola Data Books, but when they broke-up into
ON Semiconductor and Freescale, my source for the data books dried up.
I've run across a lot of the ON Semi stuff lately, I expect I'll be making use of that
new 'live chat' feature the onsemi website added, when I can't find what I need from
AE6PM.

You don't have a diode databook from the lat 80's to early 90's do you? I believe the diode may be listed in that.

Page 11 of this document suggests that Motorola made MUR and MURF devices (with the "F" devices listed as being higher speed).

Given that OnSemi is what parts of Motorola became, it seems reasonable that these devices were renamed SURF from MURF. (Although SMURF would have been more amusing).

Analysis of the part numbers tells me that MUR[F]xxyy means xx amps, yy0 volts, so this would be 3A 190V. However that seems like a low current for a TO220 device and weird voltage to boot, so I suspect it's wrong in this case.

However it does give me more to think about.

*AND* I've found an entire Motorola databook at http://noel.feld.cvut.cz/hw/ (and I've not explored it fully).

I'm not at home (where my data books are) right now.
I'll take a look-see when I get back there and let you know if I find something.
The big problems I experience with some part information is:
1) Short production runs of devices they discontinue, and are only listed in one or
two years worth of databases.
2) Inferior/incomplete markings on the devices themselves.
When I contacted onsemi 'live chat', the person sent me the data sheet on the
device I asked about (which would have been impossible for me to find with the
markings on the device), and it annoyed the hell out of me, that an information
block on the data sheet actually listed the two markings possible on the device,
that should indicate to the user that this data sheet, with the actual complete part
number, was the same thing.
You just KNOW, somebody out there has the list of actual part numbers found on
the ON Semi devices, that crosses to the actual full part number.
I don't know if it's a company private document, or in the public domain, but if I ever
find it, I'm going to have a big chunk of my On Semi part identification problems solved.

I couldn't find your parts in my data books, so I went back to the onsemi website I
was touting so recently. I got into their tech support people and they looked into your
parts.
They just emailed me this:
'These devices are customer made for a specific customer. All information regarding these
devices are considered proprietary. Unfortunately we cannot be of more assistance to
you providing the datasheets'.
So you were correct right out of the gate, your numbers are 'house numbers', they
must have teased us with similar designated part numbers that they do list. They're
just not going to ever release the data sheets on YOUR devices.
This must be why people use email for business nowadays, otherwise I'd probably reach
across the counter and throttle somebody.
If you ever get the data sheets on your parts, it'll have to come from somebody who has
the original customer data.
