I registered here in the forum last year, and it's time to introduce myself.

I saw the acronym FOG below in another introduction, and decoded it to be 'Friendly Old Geezer', among several 'interesting' variants.
My name is Torfinn and I live in Norway. I'm 58 years old now, and I've been into electronics since I was around 12, among many other interests and hobbies. Started as a antenna monkey for the local radioamateurs, but my main interest is designing and building, not necessarily using, so I never got a license.
I've been working as an engineer in R&D in different companies for the last 37 years, both hardware and software. I've worked with a number of different microprocessors and controllers, mostly programming in assembler, and more recently in C.

I'm also into woodworking, chip carving, figure carving and knifemaking.

.

yeah after 47 odd posts and 6 months or so.... yup its definately about time for an intro haha ;)

welcome aboard Torfinn, better late than never huh :)
you would leave me going in circles very quickly when it comes to uPC's, its never been my field of interest.
I have been partially dragged kicking and screaming in top the PIC processor age
mainly cuz there are more and more of them being used in amateur radio projects.
even managed to take some one elses programming and do some minor changes to suit my needs. I needed a PIC and would force an existing PIC inside a 12GHz PLL oscillator to go onto the frequency that I needed an interesting exercise

have fun on the forums and enjoy your stay

Thanks Dave,
I've also done some PIC designs, since the company i worked in used them, and only the 16x series. They are not my favorite, and I prefer an instruction set more on the evolved side. These days there are loads of small controllers that are very good and easy to use.

BTW how are your health? I've been following your comments from the hospital, and I really hope you're on the mend? Take care.

hahaha for me the simpler the better... I havent yet tried to learn PIC programming, I just have too much else going on.

Thanks for your thoughts :) the meds are keeping things stable, so thats a good thing
regular heartbeat, blood pressure etc They just have the side effects that they cause serious drowzieness and by mid afternoon I'm going into "zombie mode" hahaha, till I can get home from work and have a rest
I dont really look forward to being on them for the rest of my life, but I probably dont have a lot of choice, They will keep me alive :)

I noticed that you said you are 58, I turn 53 in july ... where have the years gone ??!!

ciao
