I posted about a Crosley director model CR2405C stereo that quit working and I have the transformer and main circuit board out. The transformer is a TM-66F-015. It has a LT as a manufacturer I.D. IMG_0333.JPG

There's a British company called Louth Transformers. I did a quick search on there site of the model numbers, but didn't get anything. Not a big surprise since this is an older style transformer. There is a way to contact them on their site and may be worth a shot. They've been in business since 1976.

It is fine. I sat this aside for about 5 weeks and got it back out last night plugged it in and it works. Sounded great. I left it on for a good 20 minutes and CD works, radio works. I turned power off for ten minutes or so, and it is in like a stand by mode, red light stays lit on front but all other lights go out. came back and turn the power back on everything lit up but no sound just like before so I turned it off unplugged it for a couple minutes turned it back on and the sound came back on and it played fine for another 20 minutes till I turned it off, an hour later I tried it again and no sound so I don't understand how I can have sound one minute and not the next could be a bad connection or a power ic is going bad. Any ideas? I thought I might go through some of these components like the power IC's and just hit them with a soldering gun to make sure the solder joints are good and if I get nothing there to pull them

Now this morning it is back to no sound output.

That does sound like a loose / bad connection.
I would open it up and check the connections from the board to the speakers first.
It could just be a connector is loose.

Have you tried headphones when there is no sound from the speakers?

Alternatively, when there is sound, move the unit or lift one side abrupty to try and cause a no sound situation.
That might confirm a loose connection.

I now think a capacitor might be the problem. I'm pulling some that look suspicious and checking them. It's like after it sets for several days it will work just fine so maybe after the voltage slowly dissipates from the bad cap then it works. I don't know. I checked all connections and tugged wires and all that for a couple minutes and no go. I will update after tonight. Someone also suggested a capacitor is bad, looking at them I don't see any that are obviously bulged on top or leaking.

Hello Banjomaniac
Your better off carrying on with the thread Martin pointed to, it will just confuse people. One of our lovely moderators will move this for you.

OK, tonight I pulled 3 capacitors and the last one I pulled acted differently, when I put it on my volt meter after discharge and on ohms it climbed pretty rapid compared to the other 2. I really looked over the board closely and there aren't any visibly bad looking caps. This one had a small spot on top like something hit it with a point like a knife tip. I discharged it and put it all back together again and it is working for now. It wasn't working before I pulled these 3 caps so maybe one of these is it. I will see if it works tomorrow and take it from there. If not I will post some pics.
