Hi am tring to make a pyrography pen, and I've been looking online for how to power it, there's loads of different ideas, the main ideas are running it from a computer psu but converting it to a variable psu, but there's a few ways on how so I've read about,

1 is to use a PWM DC motor speed controller

2 is to use a Voltage Regulator Voltmeter Buck Converter LM2596 DC 5/12V

3 is to change the 2.7k resistor in psu for a potentiometer.

I was just wondering which would be the safest and easiest way to convert it.

hi Simon
welcome to the forums :)

what current @12V does this thingie of yours need ?

1 is to use a PWM DC motor speed controller

probably not

2 is to use a Voltage Regulator Voltmeter Buck Converter LM2596 DC 5/12V

probably the best .... or depending on current, a LM317 or a LM338

3 is to change the 2.7k resistor in psu for a potentiometer.

who knows what resistor you are referring to ??
