
The lower 'diode' looks like a wire wound on a ferrite bead to give a certain, possibly lossy inductance.

I see a copper wire around the device so thought it would be a ferrite bead with the wire passing through twice. A closer look seems to see a fine wire wrapped around the RH lead but not soldered. Quite a conundrem, try a magnet to see if it is ferrite.not sure how you got that ? .... that would be more likely for the top example
I have seen old diodes encapsulated like that ...
the one end flat, other end curved indicates the polarity![]()
