home built cd ign for a V8

Hello everybody! I was researching this topic and only came across 2 youtube video's that left more questions than answers. The maker desinged his own pc board by drawing it with a marker on a blank plastic board and them soaked it in some sort of agent mixed in water. No explanation as to what agent was used. He also home wound 2 transformers on some sort of premade frame. No parts supplier was mentioned or listed. His design demonstrated as working but intended for a motorcycle, so significantly less cylinders to fire. Possibly not up to firing 8.
So I'd like your thoughts and opinions. Any help as to where to get quality electronic parts at reasonable prices. Or even a premade kit link I can just assemble. Yes I can solder, build etc have a wide variety of tools and some basic electronics knowledge.

This is intended as a home winter project.

They sell high-performance capacitive discharge or CDI V8 ign kits. They are dependent upon make model and year of your vehicle. It did take me one winter to make from scratch, including the PC board for a friend of mine’s straight-eight not a V8. dependent upon your skill level ,it is doable.

I'd like to build my own. Really tight budget and most every prebuilt cd ign box is crazy expensive..

Yes, they’re crazy expensive for a reason. The engineering involved is extensive.

Are you an engineer? How much do your kits cost? My application would be a mostly street driven big block mopar.

Electronics World and radio Electronics had multiple designs over their
publication period. Might be difficult to find specific magazine issue
but here is where the issues are. 1960's late and 1970's period of time.

Building a CDI for a V8 is doable but significantly more complex than a single- or twin-cylinder setup due to timing precision and coil requirements. You may be better off starting with a proven schematic or a DIY ECU/CDI kit from established suppliers, which will give you reliable parts, documentation, and a solid learning experience without reinventing critical components.
