    Be interesting to see the inside of the box. I'm assuming that the power for the IR (?) LEDs in the base plate comes down the standoffs.

    Probably not doable without major physical modifications...but: Reduce the distance between the LED emitter and detector pairs by a factor of 0.3048.

    What happens if you shut the power switch off at at 59 minutes or 61 minutes and then turn it back on? Does it just restart the 60 minute cycle?

    Probable a 5V, regulated, SMPS (switch mode sower supply), wall transformer would work. Can you measure the current draw with the batteries?

    Depends on the batteries. Carbon, alkaline, and NiCad batteries will leak over time and corrode the contacts and maybe even the PCBs. Not sure about the varieties of lithium batteries. Put the device in a two layers of ZipLock bags with silica gel packets. Leave the batteries out, or put it...
