    My speakers stopped working

    Given the age of the speakers, it's quite possible some of the capacitors have gone bad inside the supply after all these years. Unfortunately replacing them can be more trouble than it's worth. I'd probably just look for a used replacement set locally rather than sinking money/time into repairs.

    For determining rotation in 3 axes but in a small space, I'd recommend looking into gyroscope sensors. The MPU-6050 gyro/accelerometer module is quite popular and small enough to fit inside a d20 die I imagine. It can detect pitch, roll and yaw to know the orientation. May need to do some coding...

    @jcage possible to control your AC remotely. An easy way would be using an ESP32 or ESP8266 chip. You can program it to learn your remote's signals using an IR sensor, then connect it to wifi so you can control it from anywhere. Tuniot is a handy tool for coding it.

    It sounds like the single-button keyboard idea is probably the easiest turnkey solution here. No programming is required on your end. I'd pass that suggestion along to your friend. It should be pretty plug and play for monitoring the furnace relay contacts.
