Query about the recharging of a lead acid battery

What do you mean by "...its charge is almost empty"? If you mean its voltage reads at less than 2 Volts, then it might not charge back up again. Sealed lead-acid batteries don't do well when they're used to deep discharge. A circuit using a 12V SLA will typically have a cut-off feature that...

    Help with Digiplex DGP-848 setup

Kenbruce, my apologies for taking so long to respond. It's been a crazy week. First of all, in spite of my 40+ years of experience working with most brands of professional-grade alarm systems, I've never had occasion to work with this brand; so I doubt I could give you the support you need over...

CADDX NX8E system - looking for detailed info on expansion boards

Jim, how did you determine you don't really need the NX320? Usually when there's an auxiliary power supply installed, it's because there are too many auxiliary devices for the Control Panel, the NX8E, to handle. Somewhere on the wiring diagram inside the Control Panel cabinet door, there should...

CADDX NX8E system - looking for detailed info on expansion boards

I have about 40 years experience working with almost all the major brands of professional-grade alarm systems, but by some quirk of fate, I rarely came across this particular brand. Apparently, few dealers in my area used it, although it was a popular brand nationwide. I wouldn't have any qualms...

    Contacts?

I'm not sure what you mean by "...the magnets can be embedded in the switch." (??!) The magnets would need to be set in each ship , with one magnet positioned over each switch in each square of the grid the ship sits on. (Unless I'm envisioning a different layout than you?) I worked with...

Sunbeam Electric Bedspread stopped heating. Anyone know what the element resistance should be?

Can't apply Ohm's Law using the resistance of unpowered heating elements: The resistance of the heating elements increases as soon as current starts flowing and the elements heat up. Much easier to troubleshoot by tracking voltage, as Minder suggested. But I agree with #2 summing it up.

ADEMCO Vista-10SE alarm will not disarm.

Glad to hear it. Just to reiterate, if you haven't changed the Panel battery in 5 years, it's overdue and a weak battery can cause unpredictable problems. That system is at least 15 years old. Kudos to you for keeping it going. That's a good model.

ADEMCO Vista-10SE alarm will not disarm.

Glad you got it disarmed, that means you can work with it to get your Master Code and any Secondary User Codes you want to add. I strongly recommend having _at least_ one extra User Code. You sound like you may have an Installation Manual, but just in case...

ADEMCO Vista-10SE alarm will not disarm.

I'm going to interpret that as "I armed the system in "Away" and left the house, but came back in before the Exit Delay expired, entered Code + OFF (the “1” key), but it didn't disarm and the alarm tripped when the Exit Delay expired." I can think of a couple of ways your system _might_ be...

dangerous battery voltage in a swimming pool

I think when Davenn asked what kind of batteries, he meant are they lead-acid, lithium, NiCad, Carbon-Zinc, or one of the many other kinds. But if you're using a 12V battery, I don't know that it matters that much what kind it is. I recommend a SLA = Sealed Lead-Acid battery because SLAs are...

Battery over discharge protection & charging module for 12 volt SLA battery

ElectricalGuy, If you're still following this thread: Sounds like one of my scrap PCBs won't work for you. If your device pulls around 600 mA, then your power supply should be able to supply more than that continuously. It also sounds--just guessing here, since you haven't mentioned how you...

Visonic Powermax (Check system for troubles)

Glad you got a solution; hope it works. I held off reading through an Installation manual until I know what model panel you have. The "Fail to Communicate" Trouble was my first _guess_, but I didn't want to say it was the trouble without more info. I worked with _most_ of the major brand...

Visonic Powermax (Check system for troubles)

When you say you "Removed the associated phone-line." I hope you mean you unplugged the RJ-31X jack, rather than disconnecting actual wires at the control (which would disable all landline phone lines in the house, assuming it was installed properly.) Did you have any reason to think the phone...

Battery over discharge protection & charging module for 12 volt SLA battery

How big is the 12VDC SLA battery you found, that you want to charge? What is the power (or Amperage) draw when in use? Ebikes tend to run at much higher voltages (Typically anything from 24V to 72V?), so you wouldn't be able to use one of those out of the box. I have several scrap PCBs that...

    Relay

Question: Does the device OPEN the door, or does it UNLOCK the door? Big difference. Most access functions on intercoms _unlock or unlatch_ doors rather than open them, often with a concomitant buzzer to let someone know the door can be opened manually.

Honeywell ADEMCO VISTA-20P Door Plunger Problem

@nrgmonkey, I hope you're still paying attention to this thread after 2 months. I don't know how I missed seeing this on Aug 28th or shortly thereafter, and I apologize for not responding sooner. You said, "...when the alarm is set on instant, and that door is opened, nothing happens." When...

ADT Safewatch 3000EN Disconnect / Ring Conversion

Edit: Depending on exactly what problem you're having with the old ADT panel, instead of reprogramming the SW-3000/V-20P Panel, you can probably just stop using it and disconnect the keypad so it won't beep at you when it misses any 5816's you toss. Speaking of which, don't toss them. If you...

ADT Safewatch 3000EN Disconnect / Ring Conversion

Just moved into a new home with a pre-installed ADT Safewatch 3000 that is no longer monitored and wireless window sensors. I have since installed a Ring alarm system from our old house using a Retrofit kit to utilize the hardwired door sensors. However the retrofit kit is now tied into both the...

Ademco Vista 15 SE alarm panel (pre P series)

Glad to hear you're familiar with the equipment. Just one reminder that catches some novices in re the Vista-15SE model: Remember to start your wireless zone numbers at Zone 10 or above. Zones 1 thru 8 are reserved for on-board hardwired zones ( I know, the 15SE only has 6 on-board zones, so Z7...

Ademco Vista 15 SE alarm panel (pre P series)

The Ademco (now owned by Honeywell) Vista-15 SE is an excellent choice for an upgrade replacement Panel. Ademco/Honeywell has the alarm industry's best record for making their Control Panels and peripherals back-and-cross compatible. That means if you decide to upgrade again a few years, to a...
