    transistor switching question

KrisBlueNZ: here's the circuit that I'll be testing tonight. PCB ready to burn, if it works fine ! Thanks again !

    transistor switching question

BobK: thanks for the explanation...that is exactly what happened ! connected it to 5 v, and it worked ! took away the 5 V, it turned off, so I assumed it was working !

    transistor switching question

KrisBlueNZ: good point about the limiting resistor. In my PCB they are there, but I forgot to put it on the schematic ! I will try the circuit that you've mentioned. I suppose that a 2N222 would do the job for T1 ? Quickly; A 0V or 5V will turn T2 in conduction ? When I did my testing, I...

    transistor switching question

I'm working on a project where I need to drive 3 big SSDs (3") over I2C In order to do so, I'm using an Arduino Nano as the slave, that will extract each digit and drive the proper SSD. My SSD are Common Anode. I already built a circuit behind each SSD, that receive a 5 V. signal, and drive...

My turn ! i'm 47 from Edmonton, Alberta (western part of Canada). I'm originally from Quebec (eastern part), therefore french is my native language. Married w/2 kids (18 & 15) I have a diploma as Electronic technician, but never really worked in electronic. I also have a diploma as...

Need help making my own Arduino without buying an Arduino board

Maybe I'm missing something, but you can buy an Arduino Nano (clone) for less than 4$ on Ebay... Making your own, getting something to program it,your time & parts.... It's going to be more than 4$....

    newbie needs basic help please

At first glance, I don't see why not ! Spec that I could fin about the contactor mentioned that it is 24v, 50/60 hz There is no clear mention that it is 24 Vdc or Vac but the fact that they mention 50/60 Hz makes me think that it is AC. Only concern would be the Inrush current, but I would...

    Lens info needed

Externet: i have a lathe, a CNC and a laser cutter.... Pretty sure I can figure out a way..... Evans1944: thx for the link... Will look at it ! Bluejets: planning on using 20 watt LED... Will need a lens system

    Lens info needed

I know, it's not really an electronic question, but it started as an electronic idea !! I'm looking for info on which lens might be needed: I want to group a couple of hi-power LED, let's say on a 2-3" (5-8 cm) diameter, and focus the light as a beam, something like what you see in...

    110VAC On/Off to 5VDC signal

Check on the Microchip web site (www.microchip.com). A while ago, I found an application note, to detect zero-crossing for generating X-10. By memory, they were simply using a 1 Meg resistor to drive an input... Check on their site to be sure. I remember back then that I was surprised on how...

    Police Lights Problem

Just out of curiosity: why haven't you used some CPU, like a Arduino ???? Pretty cheap (especially on Ebay) , extremely easy to program and easy to implement speed adjustment !

Electronic noob wants to make underwater LED lights

At 14.5v they will be brighter than at 12v, no doubt ! LED driver will "stabilize" the brightness, but it is more expensive than a simple resistor.... It all comes down to how much are you willing to pay, to get the result you want !?!

Electronic noob wants to make underwater LED lights

1watt LED, blue, have a forward voltage of about 3.5 v 3 LED in series, will "consume" about 10.5 volts (better than the 9 volts of the 10 watt LED). Only 4 volts "left" Current (by memory) is about 350 mA (.35 Amp) P = I2 x V P = (.35 x .35) x 4 P = 0.49 watt Now, of course you have only...

Electronic noob wants to make underwater LED lights

That sounds about right.... Of your 14.5 v, 9v volts will be "consumed" by your LED The remaining, 5.5v needs to ho thru a resistor. Current will be the same, that is 1000mA (1 amp) Power = Amp2 * volt Power = (1*1) * 5.5 = 5.5 watt Try to build array of 1 watt LED, maybe....
