Nope. More likely an opto coupler.

HELP! Issues with Lighter Heating Coil

either your coil needs to be of the correct resistance to 'glow' without breaking or you need to control the current through it. Adding resistance only means the power is dissipated in that resistance so is a waste of time (and energy). Are you running the coil continuously? In an e-cig the...

Anyway to repair a LCD display

Doesn't look 'bad' to me. Most LCDs have a viewing angle at which they're best observed and, for some, you can adjust the display contrast to compensate for looking at obscure angles. Not all displays are fitted with such an adjustment though. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. You can easily...

    Solenoid alternative

Any solenoid can be attached to a simple lever mechanism to increase the pull (or throw) distance. Of course, the net resulting 'pull power' will reduce as a function of the leverage 'division ratio'. i.e a pull of 1Nm and a leverage ratio of 1:4 reduces the pulling power to 0.25Nm. Might be...

Horizon radio reset for power failure....

Well, that's me 'out of here' then. You clearly have no clue what you're doing or even why. I'm sorry to suggest that anything I might say or offer as advice will be totally ignored or over ridden by your clueless and irresponsible actions. Suggest you pack that VHF in a box and use it as a...

Horizon radio reset for power failure....

In the close up pic of the wires going onto the man board (the pic with the yellow and black wire at the top), there is a small 'square' located in between the positive and negative tracks - showing as four solder blobs. This MAY be a protection diode but mounted on the other side of the board...

Horizon radio reset for power failure....

If you PSU is truely 20A capable and the voltage drops to 3.5V (no current limiting) then there should be smoke coming from something. Connect the 12V supply to the VHF via a fuse (rated at 5A). You may have to remove the whole PCB and show the rear of it in clear pics too.

Horizon radio reset for power failure....

No. The fuse is supposed to be located in the power lead TO the equipment. Do you have one fitted?

NPN and PNP to gate of N-channel

Just because the devices may have identical packages doesn't necessarily mean they have the same pin-out.

Horizon radio reset for power failure....

Why? Unless you know what they are for or what they do then LEAVE THEM ALONE. Just 'doing things' isn't going to get this fixed. It will make matters WORSE. Please answer my questions FULLY - unless you don't want this fixed??? 1. What power supply are you using? 2. Can it deliver 13.8V...

Show a close up pic of this area of the circuit board - try to get it clear (not over-exposed).

Horizon radio reset for power failure....

Feel free. It's your set. Who knows? It might work. It might also cause even more damage. Thing is, if you don't know what it will do then DON'T DO IT.

Horizon radio reset for power failure....

So your power supply drops from 12V to 3.5V when it's connected to the VHF (and the VHF is OFF)? What are you using for a power supply?

General question about 12 volt inverter hookup in vehicle

The proper tools are never cheap. The whole cable would be getting warm of there was an issue with its c.s.a. (cross sectional area) so you're ok there. Without checking the manufacturers data (discharge curves) on that battery, even at 150A draw a one minute use will discharge only 2.5...

Horizon radio reset for power failure....

Don't mess with them (yet). With the set the right way up, put the black shorting link (behind the rubber plug you mentioned at the start of the thread) on the BOTTOM two pins. PRESS and HOLD the CALL/SET button on the front panel whilst powering the set up. What happens?
