    tinning

Solder flux (liquid) helps solder flow and adhere to the connections well, however it can get messy and I always clean the excess solder flux from my work using isopropyl alcohol after I do the soldering. I use a block of sal ammoniac to re-tin the soldering iron tip when it needs it, because...

    Agilent 34970A /34902A Channel won't open

If you've previously configured any multiplexer channels for scanning, you can't independently close or open individual relays on that module. Turn the knob to 111, press the 'close' pushbutton first, then press the 'open' pushbutton to see if that clears it. (The 'card reset' pushbutton will...

    The corona. What's the latest?

I'll cross my fingers for all of us during this pandemic. I appear to be a loner in my reaction to everything, everywhere, that's going on about this. Historically, this seems to my uninformed self, to be a relatively insignificant event, the death toll so far is about the same as the 2018 flu...

    The corona. What's the latest?

I'm like you in that I try to be as self-reliant as I can be. Like I said (which is not conventional wisdom), the biggest problem I see is fear from people, how they react to what I consider to be hyped media coverage of whatever will garner them attention. There isn't any actual catastrophic...

    The corona. What's the latest?

*steve*s got the most information on this, I'd check his previous posts here for advice. I'm in Arizona, one of the terrible 'spike' States in the colonies. My opinion is at odds with conventional wisdom, I'm just an observer, but not being invested in this professionally or emotionally, this is...

function but turns on once the sleep button is pre

I'd be looking at cleaning or replacing the power-on contacts. Do you have any troubleshooting and repair skills, or are you looking for some kind of outside-the-box miracle cure?

    Pigeons electronic repeller

I've tried the ultrasonic ones, even modifying the frequency. My experience, not based on any scientific evidence, is that after a relatively short period of time, the pigeons get used to the sound when they don't see an active threat. I use a timer and a quick pulse at an audio range volume...

Radio Shack 61-1065 Digital Timer User Maual

Hope it works out for you. You sound like you're about my age. Every corner dime-store had a tube tester and a cache of new TV/Radio vacuum tubes, Radio Shack, Olsen Electronics, Heathkit, all close by and able to supply parts. In those days we could open a chassis and easily get the parts we...

I have a Sa-HE200 and it powers up but no sound from speakers after overload kicked couple times.

Most of the newer amps have internal fuses for people like you who like the volume a little too high. Do you have enough troubleshooting skill to open the chassis (UNPLUG IT FROM THE WALL SOCKET), and look for any internal blown (speaker) fuses?

Radio Shack 61-1065 Digital Timer User Maual

I've been waiting to see if anybody could help you, apparently not. Radio Shack doesn't have much of anything active any more. What references I could find were from over 10 years ago, and even back then people said there wasn't much available on your unit. I've seen several references to old...

Are you forgetting about cowboy boots? I think those heels were to keep them from falling out of their saddle sturrups though.

    Questions DVD disc media

I don't know the science. I DO know that movies/games on disc won't last forever. You should get plenty of years of use out of your collection, and hopefully your movies/game system will become obsolete before the discs deteriorate, but they're not something that are designed to last...

Can I mix 3 different brands of electrolytic capacitors?

Above responses all true. Hopefully, you won't have a problem, but as Externet alluded to, there are a lot of counterfeit Chinese components loose out there that don't hold-up. It pays to try to buy brand-names from reputable suppliers. (even though the brand-name can also be counterfeited by...

    Bush radio HELP!!

Like bertus, before assuming a circuit failure, I'd suspect a 'stuck' contact on one of the push-buttons. The only way I know to try to clean the push-button contacts, is to open it up and use contact cleaner (or isopropyl alcohol). Did you try Googleing your model and see if anybody posted...

Simrad VHF radiotelephone handset speaker - poor sound

It may not help, but my experience with earpieces (if it's not the cable to the blackbox itself), is that moisture collects grime, and that can cause reduced volume. I would try to clean the earpiece before trying to replace it. Someone here might come-up with a replacement supplier for you...

    Acdelco amfm cassette radio

Depending on your troubleshooting skill level, you could open the chassis and observe the operation using a 12VDC supply, .... but as @PETERDECO tried to tell you, even if you see which worn part is at fault, you're still going to be without a replacement. My 2-cents worth is that I agree with...

    Cross reference lists

I don't know how Google displays their searches. I can ask for something one day and find it, then a couple days later, looking for the same item, Google will direct me somewhere else. Maybe Google only give you one-shot at an information request. Sounds like I need to start looking at Yahoo...

    Radio Silence

Hording? ...Hording? I'll have you know my vast collection of electronic components are all essential invaluable assets, a rarity among lesser mortals, and my pride and joy, .... despite the fact that I won't live long enough to use all of them. My daughter says when I die, she's selling...
