    Morse buzzer

Thanks for reply, I was a fully trained telegraphist in the RAF many years ago and followed it with many years in amateur radio. Just had the yen to do a bit of keying. I have a granddaughter looking to take up a communications career in the Navy and thought it would be fun to teach her morse. I...

Here is the result of some experimentation with aerials....This is my present set-up which is an Alpha USB adapter with an extended 12" rod and a cheap $2 chromed strainer from the op-shop. With my Samsung laptop I can pick up free wi-fi from the local library 150metres away giving a signal...

Back to looking at this problem again. My new improvised aerial is working quite well but I'd like to improve it. As you all may have guessed I have pretty sketchy knowledge about what I am doing, but am anxious to learn. Where would I start to find out more about wifi waves and reception? Deigh

Steve, Would this setup be suitable for my computer? It is advertised as for mobile phones but looks similiar to my existing booster. Deigh http://www.banggood.com/High-Gain-GSM-900Mhz-Signal-Booster-Amplifier-with-Cable-Antenna-p-948790.html

Thanks for those brilliant little drawings, I admire the fact that you have the medium under control enough to make them! I had already made up my mind to buy another antenna setup and hate to remind you but this was what this conversation started off as, me asking advice about what to replace...

Agree, a replacement whip antenna would solve the problem. The metal screw collar on mine is the part that broke, The female is similiar to the adapter you linked to. The reason I have pinned the aerial to the reflector with a domestic clothespeg is because that is the way it did it in the...

Just bringing it down from the wall to photo it for you broke it and a further repair was necessary. The 3 FME plug seems most likely.

Thanks for that info, I already have the ALFA and it is not as good as my present setup. The others seem too cheap to be really useful and the only one that looks good cannot be sent to New Zealand! To have it sent to a relative in Aussie and have it reposted here would prove inconvenient...

Yup, My den is 3 metre by 1.8 metre. Cat swinging is banned. My main hobby is guitar and keyboards and I have to restrict myself to minor music. I only play duets, even a trio is out of the question. Large friends are discouraged from visiting at all. Think small when replying. Deigh

Mongrel Shark, thanks for that very informative reply. Unfortunately I only have the rock/weather bars to go on. Internet is notoriously weak around this area and I only want to make the best of the situation. I admire your water cooling remark but have no plans to imitate your experiment. I...

Most libraries in New Zealand have free wi-fi. You can sit in the library and use it either with you own computer or even a public one. Alternatively you can sit outside in your car or on a public bench and use it. I live in a pensioner flat within spitting distance. I do not need special...

No external antenna connection on computer . Aha, I was getting four bars fairly regularily, but got greedy and decided to play with setup to improve signal. Aerial was connected to a stainless steel dish by a clothes peg. Folded and drilled dish to hold aerial positively and make a tidy job...

I am using a Digitech wireless N high power booster to boost the internet wi-fi signal from a public source about 150metres away. It works fairly well but I have damaged it and would like to replace it with something stronger. Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced replacement that would work...
