    Your experience with Electronics?

I suppose my career started when I was 3 years old by plugging a key into the power outlet. I never did that again. Next was pushing the off button on a department store's escalator. That scared the crap outta me. When I was about eight a local TV repair shop guy gave me a half dozen dead TVs to...

    Beginner project ideas?

I would opt for a Volt-Ohm-miliammeter (VOM) kit. http://www.kitsusa.net/phpstore/html/M1250K-20KV-Analog-VOM-Kit--soldering-kit-475.html I'm not endorsing that site it's just the first hit I got on Google.

New guy here and need some help on a NICAD battery

It looks like a thermistor to me. Sort of an overheating protection. I would think you could bypass it as long as you keep an eye on the battery. Even if you knew what it was they sure made it next to impossible to remove.

Correct zener voltage for a mosfet gate

I'm not much of an expert in this area but on a power supply for my TV they're using a 15V zener.

    Finding or making transformers

You might be better off by looking on Ebay for a bargain. I hate to be discouraging but from what I've looked into the prospect of output transformer winding looks overwhelming. For one thing you need to wind onto a bobbin and then assemble the core afterwards and torroids are not suitable...

where to buy how to build 24v Ac Adapter with three outputs?

I installed a security camera system that had a wall wart squid adapter but, alas, no one seems to sell those. Steve's power recommendation is spot on. It looks like you'd have to get a couple more plugs, some wire and as Mr. Giant said wire in parallel.

    Reverb

PT2399 Goggle search for a PT2399 datasheet. I used the schematic in the application guide and it worked extremely well. You can tweak some values to get more range. Someone out there made a kit including a compander stage.

    Protron/Spectroniq FSP194-3F01 Power Supply for PLTV-3250

I'm hoping somebody has one of these sitting around so they can tell me what the value of CS29 is. I pulled it out and got distracted on another project. Doh!

    Experiment 9; MAKE: Electronics

Okay, let me try this again. My previous example was ca continuity test with power. These next examples are with power disconnected. Also in these examples I will assume you are using a 100 Ohm resistor. From the positive wire to TP you should read 100 Ohms with the button pushed. Continuity. If...

    Experiment 9; MAKE: Electronics

After a bit of Googling I got an idea of what you're trying to do. Here's a couple places to check. With the meter black probe on the negative measure voltage on point 'A' ; should be the supply voltage. Measure 'B'; should be supply voltage after pressing the button. Measure 'TP'; should be the...

    Experiment 9; MAKE: Electronics

I think Rleo hit on your problem. The power buses on each side of your breadboard need to be jumpered. I've fallen into that trap a few times,:D

    Fluorescent Lamps

Yea, that's what I was thinking. It's for sure a momentary pushbutton. When pushed you can see the filaments glow and when released the entire tube fires up so to speak.

    Fluorescent Lamps

Back to basics. This is the way I thought they worked. The ballast provides a high voltage to get the mercury to ionize and then the voltage drops and the filaments on each side maintain the glow. However, my magnifying lamp wasn't working so I delved into what the problem might be. I made a...

    cheap boards! (maybe homemade)

The problem with some construction techniques is trouble shooting. More often than one would wish things don't go as planned (try, try again. That's why those solderless breadboards are so marvelous. I've had one for more years than I care to mention. Once a circuit is deemed to function then...

    cheap boards! (maybe homemade)

Achhh!, Go ahead with cardboard. Something slightly sturdy like a cereal box, What are you going to use a nail to punch holes? Sure it'll work but you'll run into problems like tearing and being difficult to work with. Go with Steve's guidelines.

    Schematic to reality conversion

One of the most valuable pieces of test equipment you can own is a multimeter. Make it a goal to get one. Now for the Jack: if you look closely follow the metal from the tab I labeled TIP. it is the same piece of metal that will make contact with the TIP of the Plug. That will be your Signal...

    What Devilry Is This??

Yea, I know. I've been guilty of making a snipe now and then but I try to pad it with an apology.

    What Devilry Is This??

Geez, I hope we can all avoid taking things too seriously. I'm sure I posted at least a couple stoopid questions and I probably will in the future. The more I learn the more I realize what I don't know. Thanks(from a Yank)Electronics Forum for being here.

    Schematic to reality conversion

2N5458 is also a general purpose JFET. I'll stick my neck out and say it'll work too. Do a Google search on it and you'll find the pinouts. Put the Negative on the Source. Hope my drawing of the plug clears things up. 22 gauge stranded wire should be adequate.
