Where can I get a MMIC library for Eagle?

    The datasheet says it's a Micro-X package AKA MP86E. https://www.snapeda.com/parts/HMC479MP86/Analog%20Devices/view-part/

ECM - Jeep computer - help IDing the motherboard please.

In my search for information on a possible CDI unit for my tractor I found this site. 12 million publications, all in the public domain (no copyright issues) and covering everything from patents, NASA research papers and even very old electronics magazines. Absolutely invaluable and available to...

Loud music from over-the-fence is causing offence...

True, but in NZ when discussing possible solutions to such problems, they don't argue which would be the most suitable; .223, 7.62x39 30.06, .308 or .50BMG.

Loud music from over-the-fence is causing offence...

Don't know anything about NZ law, but the first thing is to talk to your neighbors and explain the situation. Yes it's unlikely anything will happen, so next check local laws for 'public and/or private nuisance' and use that law to make a formal complaint. As you say you can't afford to move I'm...

which 1Nm motor should I choose for my solar panel cleaner ?

I can see a long term downside to your idea. A dry brush, rotating at 450RPM on a dusty gritty surface with no water/detergent solution would quickly damage the panel surface, which is possibly an EVA film rater than glass.

    Hall switch magnets.

The original distributor is mounted on the front of the engine and has the coil mounted to the top Not an ideal location for the regular points replacement and timing adjustment needed due to the very limited clearance between the distributor cap and the radiator. My plan was to set up the...

    Hall switch magnets.

The only way it would work is if I replaced the strap and bearing with something that gave more clearance as there isn't room above the bearing. An awful lot of work, and I've thought of doing it, but it's beyond my capabilities so I'll stick with the PVC sleeve that I've made. Plus I can take...

    Hall switch magnets.

I have looked at optical and hall sensors with a shutter wheel but my problem is that the distributor has a strap that supports a top bearing, so you can't fit a wheel. Using 90 degree spaced magnets is the only practical way that I can see. Which hall sensor are you using?

    Hall switch magnets.

I've been messing around with the ignition system on my old Ford 8N tractor for a while now and the stumbling block in any design has always been the points. So I decided to build a hall sensor switch, possibly an Allegro A3144, because I already have a bag of them. I made a PVC sleeve to go...

ECM - Jeep computer - help IDing the motherboard please.

Patrick, it was never my intent to 'put you in your place'. I'm a retired auto mechanic and cop who used to fix electronics by banging in a few nails, such was my lack of knowledge. I now, after learning a little, use screws. I'm still reading through the document I linked, which for me asked...

    Where to find scrap electronics?

Local charity shop. Many of the 'donated' electronic items are non working. Be cautious though, a friend went this route and told the charity shop that he wanted the electronic items so he could practice repairing them. The deal was that if they were beyond repair he kept them, if they could be...

Free online textbooks and video lectures

There's a nationwide shortage of auto technicians, truck drivers, nurses etc, and they all have one thing in common, they don't pay enough to attract potential workers. When I was an auto technician employers thought that they are doing you a favor by offering $10 an hour for a 6 day 60 hour...

    Programming starting point

I have both a PICKit3 and AVR programmer with MPLAB X and ATMEL STUDIO. Undecided which one to use at the moment, either PIC16F630 or the ATTINY 2313, as mine is a very simple project only needing digital i/o and one timer.

    Hall effect ignition

Check out the ISL9V3040D3S from Fairchild, it's designed specifically for vehicle ignitions and has all the associated protection circuitry built in. The other advantage is that it is logic level so you can use a 5 volt microcontroller at a later date for timing and dwell control etc.

Stepping up the voltage for a Geiger Counter

I'm new to electronics and still learning but have a concern from your schematic that the inductive 'kick' from L1 when Q1 turns off may cause overvoltage problems with the Arduino.

ECM - Jeep computer - help IDing the motherboard please.

Looking at the pictures it seems that you have a transformer and a few capacitors with rust marks. To me this means that the silicone encapsulation or the main harness seal has broken down, and not only these components, but the PCB itself are damaged. I honestly don't know if the board is multi...
