Using a transistor as a relay

OK im going to switch gears here. I got a 5v relay that i will now be using. I hooked it up and it triggers the relay closed when the digital output is high. And i have it feeding a gnd to the middle and the output pin on the relay is reading 0v. However when i hook that end up to one side of...

Using a transistor as a relay

i get 0v when off and 0.01v when on...... That wont work since it would turn on the motherboard when the arduino is off or on...

Using a transistor as a relay

Its a radioshack brand... Its labeled With the FLAT end down... ---- (____) 3 2 1 Which is 1 = emitter 2 = base 3 = collector So in the previous pic it was 1 = arduino gnd 2 = digital output > 330 ohm 3 = out to switch

Using a transistor as a relay

Well i tested this out and i'm not sure about the setup values. At both times i get 0v when the 5v port is on (HIGH) or when its off (LOW) using a 330ohm resistor. At this point it would seem it would turn on the pc even in the off (low) state? Any ideas?

Using a transistor as a relay

I just checked with a voltmeter those 2 points. When the motherboard is OFF it reads around 2.96v (So i'm going to call that 3v) and when i push the button down it goes to 0v. Releasing the button makes it go back to 2.96v (3v). David

Using a transistor as a relay

Alright correction. This is the type of switch i will be connecting to: When i connect those points shown in the picture together the PC starts up. Holding the wire on them for a couple seconds turns it right back off. Would the same setup be needed for this as well? David

Using a transistor as a relay

I have more things to Arduino will do other than turn the PC on or off. I have a program that has a menu and i will be using a thumbstick to navigate in it using the com of the Arduino to move it. etc etc.

Who wire do i connect to the C? The positive or negative from the power switch on the PC?

Using a transistor as a relay

Would there be any way to show me what all need to be hooked up to the E/C and B of the PNP 2222 transistor?

Using a transistor as a relay

Sorry maybe this will help: I am planing on using an arduino digital pin out to the transistor to act as a switch whenever i touch a touch sensor. Since the digital pin has an output of 5v to the base of the transistor i just needed to know how to use the Emitter and Collector.

Using a transistor as a relay

Its the soft power on cable (the one going to the motherboard PW pins). Just looking for something to act as a momentary switch for it to be turned on or off without the need for a relay to do it.

Using a transistor as a relay

Is there anyway i can use a transistor in place of a relay in order to turn on the power switch to my PC? Any help would be great! David

60 LCD (color) screens displaying QTY and LED via microcontroller

I'm just thinking of getting some LCD TFT's (5 inches or so) with touch screens and hooking them up to some ebox 3300 PC's. That would give me more options on how i go about programming and all. Saying that does anyone have any good links to any LCD websites with good prices? The lowest i've...

60 LCD (color) screens displaying QTY and LED via microcontroller

Good suggestion but having to work with both the LCD and board mount would bring the cost up to 40 each plus would require an arduino to power each LCD itself. Thats a lot of money :) David

60 LCD (color) screens displaying QTY and LED via microcontroller

Hey all I am looking into building a project for my company that would better help them lower the errors of workers when choosing parts. What I need to accomplish is a way to have a small LCD screen (which I would like color so it would show up when on) on each part (60 parts) and depending...
