    Circuit Board coding

This is not a reference to a particular circuit or schematic. I think this question has been described aptly

    Circuit Board coding

I have just started using the green circuit boards (the ones with the holds and solder rings). I notice that there is lettering (the alphabet) printed alongside one edge of the board. When i flip the board, there is also the alphabet, but it is in reverse order from the other side of the board...

    Searching for Solder

Based on an article that Bertus kindly referred me to, I am looking to buy SN 60 solder at .30 in size. I looked on Amazon but there are too many choices and it’s hard to understand the specs. Can someone recommend a roll? Preferably one that can be found on Amazon? thank you

    Technique Question

One thing I tried was to join the pins of the 555 underneath the 555 prior to fastening it on the board. It was not the neatest solution, but it worked. I had to pre join pins 4 and 8. and pins 2 and 6.

    Technique Question

Thank-you. I actually prefer to read and learn, rather than get handed answers. The problem is, there is a lot of misinformation on the net. If someone here refers me to a good source, i am very pleased to read up and find the answer. Thanks Bertus!

    Basic Question

This is the kind of board I am using. Can anyone tell me the purpose of the circled item (those connectors), and how I would go about using them in a circuit? Thank-you

    Technique Question

Sorry for all the questions, but I am truly a newbie and am getting a lot out of this new hobby. The people here have been great! So here's another: I am working with the 555IC. The project requires me to connect pins 98 and 2. and pins 2 and 6. I have gone beyond the breadboard stage and...

btw- one of the reasons I joined this board is because I trust the expertise here ;-)

It's all good. A lesson for me. Read everything twice and listen carefully.

Solved. I apologize for my stupidity. I did not notice that the first two resistors has a K beside their number. And when you hear the video, his says the word Kilo Ohms very fast, so i did not hear it. Anyway, all is well. Worked like a charm once I swapped out resistors of the correct value. I...

    Frustrated

Maybe there is a flaw in the circuit. On the one hand, if the blinking is so fast that it is undetectable, then what's the point? And...why is it that when i remove the capacitor entirely from the circuit, the LED is still lit as before. The capacitor appears to have no effect. To answer your...

Interesting- when I remove the capacitor entirely, the LED remains lit. ???????????/

Changed the LED to blue. Still same result. The LED comes on but no blinking. If anyone has the time to replicate this on a breadboard, maybe it would be a way of proving me wrong- but I am sure I did everything right.

I am careful about not having leads touch. They are not, although it may be hard to see that, I am on my way outy but whe n I get back, I will have a VERY VERY careful fourth look.

    Frustrated

I find this incredibly frustrating. I am building all these circuits from the internet, and they rarely work. I don't know what I am doing wrong. This is a good example. In this circuit, the guy explains it very thoroughly, and takes the time to show exactly how to make the connections. I did...

    555 Circuit

Thank-you. Great resource. I think it has one built in cause it works if I connect 12 volts directly to it

    555 Circuit

Does anyone know of a simple 555timer ic circuit that will make a 12 volt led strip blink. Someone suggested I go this route, and now that my ic chip has arrived, I am looking for a circuit that will do the job. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank-you
