why output voltage of LM317 decreases?

The 6V zener diode in the LM317 isn't used for voltage regulation because with its ref terminal grounded for 1.25V output, the voltage is guaranteed with at least only 3V from input to output. Most of the LM317 spec's are made with 5V from input to output. Its typical dropout voltage is about...

why output voltage of LM317 decreases?

Hi Shahriar, 1) You marked the wrong resistor in your schematic. the 3.3 ohm "anti-surge" resistor is on the left and is in series with the rectifier's negative terminal and the circuit. 2) You don't need an anti-surge resistor. Rectifiers are designed to charge a filter cap with a very high...

    need help from the pros!

Hi Cakes, Welcome to our forum. ;D I didn't see any spec's about whether the power supplies have their voltage regulated and are free of hum. They have a pretty big difference in their output current: The 1st one can provide up to 7A of current. The 2nd one can provide up to 1.5A. The 3rd can...

Convert 12 VDC batteries to 8.4VDC

Hi Alun, Wait a minute. Maybe the camcorder has a really bright 50W light on it. ;D ;D

Convert 12 VDC batteries to 8.4VDC

A camcorder doesn't draw 7.5A, the battery is capable of providing 7.5A to a load that draws that much. An LM317 by itself with a small heatsink is fine.  ;D

    Led display Digital Voltmeter question

Hi Shankar, A resistor divider would waste a lot of power and wouldn't regulate the -5V very well. A linear series voltage regulator IC is a voltage divider that hardly wastes anything and regulates the -5V extremely well. ;D

Need some electronic add-on ideas for my new project (Stirling engine)

Hi Dazza, It is great that it works. Nice video. ;D I have heard that a steam engine has torque like you wouldn't believe! How about condensing and re-cycling its steam? ???

The mechanical construction side of my Stirling engine project.

Congratulations, Dazza! ;D You have made a wooden engine that works. It makes quite a racket doesn't it? ;D

    6V Ultra-Bright Chaser

Hi Ante, I bought a two-wire alternating red-blue LED from him. He doesn't have four-wire RGB LEDs yet. I just finished replacing the bad LED. On my low-voltage ohm-meter it measures about 14M in both directions and on diode test measures about 1V in both directions. A good one measures >20M...

    Wireless camera help

The local owner of a tanning salon got busted yesterday for spying on a naked woman. He didn't bother using a video cam, his eyeball was discovered by the woman peering at her from a hole in the wall. :o ;D

    6V Ultra-Bright Chaser

Thanks, Ante. ;D I remember the details of when I bought those green ultra-bright LEDs. The storekeeper gave me an extra one because when I tested them, one was red instead of green. Maybe he thinks they change colour after a while! ;D ;D

Need some electronic add-on ideas for my new project (Stirling engine)

Hi Alun, Yeah, I know. I've changed my profile's clock settings from Greek time to Californian time and now to my own time each time our server is moved. Did you change your clock to Australian time so that you could post your crummy looking PNG? Nya, Nya! My GIF looks much better and uses...

    6V Ultra-Bright Chaser

Hi Guys, Sure my ultra-bright chasers are still working with their original batteries, and I have them chasing around almost every evening (my wifey :-* keeps saying, "Turn-off those blinding things! >:("). Since their light is fairly directional I just point them away from her. ;D One of...

Need some electronic add-on ideas for my new project (Stirling engine)

Hi John, It sounds like it might be a steam engine. I'll let Dazza explain it because I don't want to build one and aren't curious enough about it to look it up. ;D

Need some electronic add-on ideas for my new project (Stirling engine)

Hi Ed, Are you down under too? There are many of you upside-down folks on this forum. ;D Isn't Oz closer to the South Pole than I am to the North Pole? ??? Just think of the huge tempersture increase in the center of our planet right in between us. It would be more than enough to run a Sterling...
