    Transformer and LM317 Question

Harry, It sounds like your question is mostly about how to calculate current and voltage ratings when using different rectification methods. I have attached some diagrams with formulas. Hope it is helpful. BTW- I also prefer to use jpg. Your picture looks fine when I click on it and it turns...

    Making Life Easier

I might add to this, that if you are using a circuit board program that creates a silk screen image of the components automatically, you can print this and do the same. I think this is an excellent idea. A little clay or flux in the holes and you could spray a light laquer or conformal coat to...

Where did you see a sine-wave inverter article in the link? I only see square wave. Did I miss it or are you having fun with Renaldo? MP

Best circuit drawing software out there?

I totally agree, indulis. I have yet to find a package with everything I need. I always have to use different software packages for different types of design. Even the more expensive packages have many things lacking. MP

    I CAN'T READ THEM

There are some instrumentation circuits in our projects section such as power supplies, etc- that might be helpful. The nice thing about building these is that you have equipment for your workbench when you are done. A real plus for someone who is new to electronics. MP

    6 or 7KW Inverter Needed

Renaldo, It is as ante has mentioned: An inverter such as your request is not normally built from a 12VDC supply. Batteries are connected in series and parallel groups to convert from a much higher voltage. Some actually convert 120 VDC to 120 or 240 VAC. It is easier to keep them charged and...

    Led display Digital Voltmeter question

Did you add the power supply bypass caps? I cannot think of a reason why it would work a year ago but now with no changes it does not work. Something must be different. Are you measuring a true DC waveform? Does the display agree with the voltage that is being measured? Please tell us more about...

    help about this supply

Hi Steve, To answer your question: You will see some differences in output, but mostly dependent upon whether you have a capacitor on the output or a resistive load. There is also a difference in the current output for the different types. See below: MP

    help about this supply

ante, Completely written while looking at Steve's link. I did not assume from the post that anyone knew what full wave or half wave rectification is, and thus a little explanation. I think the post is explained pretty well if you look at the terms for rectification type. Something anyone should...

    Question about Ground Loops

I do not see where sensors connected to a logger is any different than all of the different peripherals of a TV working together. If all components do not have the same ground potential, none of your voltage references are the same from one end of the device to the other. If the shielding is not...

    help about this supply

Ante, I was not implying that 2 diodes are better than 4. Only that 2 are better than 1 in regards to ripple. I also recommended that Steve use a bridge rectifier (4 diodes) if he were not going to use a center tapped transformer. Sorry if I was not clear on that. MP
