technical aspects of using 7 segment display

The difference is that one type uses a common voltage and you ground the segments to light them where the other has a common ground and you apply voltage to the segment pins to light them. MP

    digital voltmeter and temp display

Internal voltage references are used for comparison to the input data. This is how you would scale. The meter is actually displaying 30 volts or 30 millivolts, etc., depending upon your scaling. It is not actually reading a temperature. You adjust the high and low for the meter as a...

Want to use LED Dot Matrix Board

Masterleous, A Matrix works on a X-Y table. For example, if you call the horizontal rows X (x1, x2, x3, etc.) and the vertical rows Y (y1, y2, y3, etc.), then you can control each LED by making sure that a specific X row has voltage and a specific Y row has a ground. Since the LED needs both of...

Has anyone implemented the 8 line tele intercom?

Everyone: Please! When asking about a project, please add a link in your post. Otherwise we have to leave the forum to go look at it. A link will open in a new window. Most users will not leave the forum to see what you are talking about, so you will most likely get very few replies. MP

    Stepper Motor Project

If it is a small enough stepper, you can run it directly from the parallel port. There are a few different types and how you connect it will depend upon this. You did not mention what you know about programming, which operating system you will use or which language you prefer to program in, so...

    HELP with digital thermometer

I would suggest the LM35 temperature sensor combined with the digital voltmeter project from our projects section here on the site. This section can be accessed from the main page. Follow the data sheet for the LM35 to make it display the numbers correctly. MP

    fm tranismiter

Alun, I can see using an older op-amp if you have a bunch of stock you want to get rid of, but not as something to purchase. If you MUST use the LF351, I found about 28,000 of them around with my parts search. You should not have a problem getting one. But like audioguru has stated, go for the...

    How to TEST this beast?

Quite frankly Rhonn, If I had a doubt, I would just replace it. They are about 8 cents each in qty (large qty), but On-Semi will send out as many as 25 free samples for just the postage. You can't buy many labor hours for this amount of money. Best to put your labor elsewhere. Just my 2 cents ...

    PCB software

Hmmm...they must have updated the libraries in 2001, then. The last time I made the comparison I found Eagle to have much more. Of course, I check the CADSOFT website periodically and download the free add-on libraries made by users. MP

How to view and print PostScript files?

I have 6.0 and it converts it to a pdf....but that might actually be part of the pdf writer program. Not sure. Maybe someone could verify if they can click on a ps and see a new pdf created with the sane name when they are running 6.0? MP

    Missing buttons

I like the new format of the site and it does seem to be faster to move from page to page...but I kind of miss the blue buttons that used to be at the top of the page for a quick jump to articles or projects. Wonder if we could get them back? Thanks. MP

    Shut off timer

The main thing, and what audioguru has pointed out, is that you will need a clock of some sort. You can look for a clock circuit or use a microcontroller if you are familiar with them. Once you have the clock circuit or a 24 hour timer, you just have to count pulses to turn on or off a relay. I...
