What is the best Program to Design PCB

I use (free) Kicad and found it very good, there are many tutorials and manuals out there for it. Previously I was using an older version of Orcad and found Kicad pretty comparable. If you are running XP still, you will need the older build version. M.

Adding an external 240v garden light

I have a UK electricians license that I acquired in a previous life, I know some things have changed, but the basics, remain pretty much the same!. M.

Adding an external 240v garden light

IF you feel competent it is a simple change you will have a live conductor at the switch, which you can pick up for the second sw, but you will need a switch wire out to the outside light, and pick up a neutral for it. Have you done anything like this before? M.

    Bypass motor on motor help

Is the gear off of the small shaft with a flat on it, if so that implies that the shaft turns and the gear may have a small set screw with an Allen socket type recess. Possibly this is the rotating shaft for the reed sw? Or is it the one in the centre? M.

    Bypass motor on motor help

Perhaps the motor did not move because the gear was jammed, or perhaps because it did not see the reed switch, Where is the reed switch in relation to this? Are you sure that is the shaft the gear came from? if the shaft did not turn when you energized the motor this also could be the cause of...

    Bypass motor on motor help

A reed switch is normally activated by a permanent magnet of some kind, when it passes over the switch, the switch closes (normally N.O). The magnet is attached to some kind of moving object and triggers, ON/OFF, every revolution. I cannot see the actual reed sw from the picture, but if you can...

    Bypass motor on motor help

Can you actually locate it and see what the device is and what, if anything triggers it? There is no alternating field effect that could trip it, unless there is some kind of magnet that is, or should be, rotating past it. Maybe the magnet has slipped or missing, is it showing normally open...

    220v PCB Design Guidelines?

Depends on what currents are involved, obviously keep all high voltage and low control circuit as separate as possible and any ground planes should not be close. There are charts available for general current sizing of traces. M.

    Bypass motor on motor help

The motor is the main thing, anything else should be minor, hopefully. You could try a ohm meter across the yellow gray pair, unplug from the controller first and see if you get pulses when the motor turns. M.

How does a 110v portable generator with brushes generate electricity?

That is correct as it applies to a alternator as the field is on the rotor. In a DC generator the field is the stator. Hope that clears it up now.;) M.

How does a 110v portable generator with brushes generate electricity?

BTW, usually the field is controlled NOT the direct control of the bridge. M.

How does a 110v portable generator with brushes generate electricity?

Actually I used a LM311 comparitor to achieve the one I designed! Compare the output with the set voltage and the comparitor switches the field on and off. It was a very simple circuit. M.

    Hiding a momentary push button.

One self designed method could be to use some very thin shim tin, there is a source from an empty cola can, although these are usually aluminum and could be tricky to make contact with a wire conductor. But if the shim were placed inside the cylinder in an arc that just barely makes contact with...

How does a 110v portable generator with brushes generate electricity?

Auto alternator regulators have evolved over the years and are fed off of the battery, the first kind was a simple Relay operation, the next was electronic version of the relay type, and worked in the electronic version by a sensing circuit to detect 14.5v, when the output of the bridge reached...

How does a 110v portable generator with brushes generate electricity?

The method is called self-exitation. The difference between a dc generator and an alternator is on the DC gen the field is wound on the stator, in an alternator the field is on the rotor and connects via slip rings. With a DC generator initially it is flashed as you say with a dc source such as...

DC motor Speed Control with high current and potentiometer

If you are interested in building one for the experience then something like the one on the Dave Johnson site can be made to work, this is how the majority of ebay versions are made. You can wire a prototype up using something called Vero or strip board which subs for a printed circuit. M.

How does a 110v portable generator with brushes generate electricity?

Look up Flemings right hand rule. The residual you are talking about is in the stator, when the rotor is turned, the windings in the rotor cut through the residual magnetism in the stator, this induces a voltage in the armature and creates a small voltage output from the commutator, because the...
