Difference between ground and -ve voltage

It is, but unfortunately incorrect. The Common or chassis connection International symbols should be used. It can lead to a lot of misunderstanding especially once you actually intend a point to be at Earth ground. In other cases where this symbol is used and someone actually interprets it to...

    Fluke 89iv funny reading

One thing to keep in mind with Fluke meters is when the internal battery is getting low, before the battery symbol comes up you can get very weird readings. I have experienced it with mine, so when a maintenance electrician approached me and said he was measuring 240vac instead of the expected...

Need to replace DC gearmotor with a stepper one

The one problem I can see going from stepper to DC motor is the feedback that will be required, a stepper motor is an open loop servo/positioner. A stepper, all you have to do is supply step/dir signals, and providing the load is within the capability of the stepper it will position to a...

    Tension/Pressure sensor?

Strain Gauges normally output a very small signal, you may need to increase the resolution before trying to input to the normal analogue input to a μP. M.

Hence my question to clarify the type of motor. You could still use mains power via a low voltage Wall Wart. M.

    Future

First explain details of the motor, these can run from mains powered Universal motors to small, low voltage P.M. DC type. All it seems you need is a dual timer, either off the shelf or If you Google 555 timer you will find more than you need. For just on/off control this could be done with a...

    Convert 110v 60Hz to 230v 50Hz

There should be no difference using and operating equipment designed for the L & N and the N.A. system (L1 L2), the one possible difference is that the present machine may have an internal main fuse in the live conductor only, in N.A. it would have a fuse in both L1/L2. .Worst case scenario a...

    Stepper motor or Servo?

Another alternative would be to use small prox detectors such as Honeywell SS400 series in conjunction with a miniature magnet, these are N.O. open collector and could be OR'd, only a couple of $ each. http://sensing.honeywell.com/honeywell-sensing-ss400-series-product-sheet-009050-3-en.pdf M.

    Convert 110v 60Hz to 230v 50Hz

I would imagine any control electronics are all low voltage DC and would be supplied from either a linear or SMPS power, so should not be affected. What conditions do the digital controls monitor or control? They may not be frequency sensitive, e.g. thermal etc, the main thing I can see is the...

    Convert 110v 60Hz to 230v 50Hz

What is the reason for a converter? Your motor will probably run fine on 60Hz just a little faster and slightly lower current. It is probably geared down quite a bit also? You would just need to install a 15amp 240v outlet which may be simpler than buying a $1300.00 convertor. M.
