    Induction heating gold

I have worked on two application, one was a steel ingot weighing about 150lbs and used 60hz, the other was silver soldering the filler pipe into gas tanks using silver solder and this ran around 455khz, the metal heating melted the S.S. The frequency will changes somewhat with material size and...

    Induction heating gold

Well all you have to do is build one with the capacity, the optimum frequency may be something that would need to be researched. As mentioned, it may be the crucible that heats up and melts the gold? M.

Total beginner... so I don't know if what I want to do is easy or hard!

If we assume it is a basic induction motor here is the normal connections, with both windings exiting the motor it is possible to reverse the motor easily, if there is a common coil connection made internally and not as shown then you may be stuck with opening up the motor and digging the...

Back when I was in the process of taking my electrical/electronic qualifications, a popular 1st year mid term exam question was if you have a shunt wound DC motor and the field winding supply is disconnected while the motor is running: 1/ Does it slowly revolve to a stop?. 2/ Speed up out of...

Total beginner... so I don't know if what I want to do is easy or hard!

I could dig up some references, there are basically 3 kinds of motor found in the home, 1ph (split phase) induction motor, Universal (AC/DC brushed) motor, and dc P.M. brushed in battery operated portable tools. The universal motor being a series motor essentially operates in a runaway...

The 50Hz 2800rpm sort of indicates a 4 pole (induction) motor, which for a saw is a little unusual as saws usually run at high rpm, mine is a 2 pole 3480 rpm on 60Hz. M.

    4v motor damaged?

I didn't look too closely into the motor technology , but one section shows the motor turning only in one direction but the mechanism reversing? M.

The capacitor sort of indicates a split phase induction motor, VFD control of 1ph motors is not that successful, but if it is only soft start and used to get it up to max rpm without any speed control, then it could be split phase. The absence of brushes would confirm it. M..

Usually motors fitted to the likes of a table saw are only expected to run in one direction so often the winding pair are connected internally, you can swap either the run or the start winding WRT the other. usually both ends of each winding is required with the exception of motors where the...

    4v motor damaged?

If it is a DC brushed motor, you should see a generated voltage across the terminals when spun. Another test is to short the connections and try and spin it, you should feel/see a braking effect. M.

    4v motor damaged?

If this is a dc motor, check the continuity across the motor terminals, if the terminations are solder type on top of the motor, you may have un-soldered and internal connection if too much heat applied? M.

    How to properly connect wires

I typically use this method and solder a linemans splice, it has worked well so far and is fairly compact. http://makezine.com/2012/02/28/how-to-splice-wire-to-nasa-standards/ Wire nuts are not on my list of favorite connectors. M.

motor and pumps use 2 x 115 v ac and this is problem

I tend to disagree here, the earth ground symbol is pretty much universal in my experience.. Here in N.A. in particular, the earth ground is used indiscriminately for both chassis and earth GND. The Art Of Electronics by Horowitz and Hill are a particular example of wrong/misleading usage of...

motor and pumps use 2 x 115 v ac and this is problem

The term neutral may not be strictly an exact quotation but it is a term that is has been customarily used by most of the world to indicate a grounded conductor quoted in N.A. by NEC/CEC/NFPA79. e.g. in N.A. If a piece of equipment uses a 3ph 480v/600v transformer with a 120v secondary for...

motor and pumps use 2 x 115 v ac and this is problem

I only meant to point out to him and try to explain the meaning of the neutral as he appeared to be getting a little confused about 4 conductor that can be used in US/CAN. It was intended to re-enforce your comments not override them. Poster here seem a little more touchy than other forums, it...
