    Only if you have a Diode test scale on the meter, a zener will test the same as a normal diode, conduct one way only on a Diode check meter. In uses it breaks down in the reverse biased mode at the zener rated point. M.

    You cannot test it with a meter on Ohm's range, you need a Diode test range where it provides forward current and shows the volt drop. It could be a MOV or other suppression device also. Can you post a pic of it? M.

    No that is single pole, single throw, you need single pole double throw. That type is common in the automotive field so I would be surprised if an automotive store did not carry it? M.

    1N4148 is a little on the light side for that application, the minimum I would used is a 1N4000 series, I usually keep 1n4007 as it covers many eventualities. Even a little high on the current rating would not hurt. M.

    I assume you are powering the arduino separately? And if so the power common (-ve) for each supply has to be connected together. If that was your question. One problem with N.A. terminology, GND (chassis) is also used for (Earth) GND. M.

    If the motor is off load and it it is a 12vdc motor on 12vdc, then it should run at minimum current with no heating. Very little or no sparks should be seen when up to speed. M.
