    Disconnect the battery and check if there is continuity between those two solder joints. There should not be!.

    Your theory is correct. 30 and 87a should be a closed contact just like your wire loop. A spring in the relay holds the contacts closed. I don’t understand this behaviour, there has to be something going on though. Have you tried wiring the relays externally, away from the relay socket?.

    I think you’ll be alone with this request. Surely you can make a BOM yourself as it’s all in front of you!. Apart from a few resistors, we can’t even see the markings of the ICs.     Yes, change the caps. But get them from a reputable supplier. Cheap deals on eBay or similar, you never know what you’ll get.

    As suggested above, filtering appears to be the main reason. You really need to check the ESR of those capacitors before you go down a rabbit hole. As also mentioned, the fact that the audio/noise increases with volume, suggests that the audio IC’s, preamp and amp are working.

    Start by checking the fuse in the plug. Then you’ll have to open the unit to check the continuity of the cable. While the unit is open (unplugged) check for a fuse on the PCB. Take photos and upload them here.

    Ok, try mounting the fan lower and put some kind of conduit or tube attached to it and attached to the roof too. You need to stop the smoke recirculating like a convector heater. Think about how a kitchen extractor fan works.

    Chimneys can be quite complicated. In real life, they are not straight up. They are designed to draw upwards and out. We use ‘smoke sticks’ to test for a draw. Perhaps your model chimney doesn’t draw and is recirculating inside. As an experiment, I would try a push pull affect. A fan (slow)...

    Forget that! I think you need a much lower RPM. Perhaps 200-500 RPM. A motor with a gearbox would be ideal.

    Perhaps it’s spinning too fast. Slow it down with a lower voltage source. See if that works.

    Have you wired the fan correctly? It may be pulling air rather than pushing?
