Potential energy of suspended mass expressed in kWh

So you are expressing the m in PE = mgh in SI units not in traditional units where the mass base unit is the gram and not the kg. Hence, 1000 x 9.8 x 3 = 29,400. However, in your written equation, 1000kg = 1Mg you are expressing mass as grams. How do you determine which value for m you will be...

Potential energy of suspended mass expressed in kWh

I sincerely assumed the length of a metre was based on emission frequency wavelength of an element. I believe the exact water temp when determining a gram mass is listed in that particular method of mass determination. I might agree that a second is in a sense, an averaged value. However, the...

Potential energy of suspended mass expressed in kWh

I traditional units, 1 kg is one one-thousands of a tonne (tonne = metric ton = Mg )

Potential energy of suspended mass expressed in kWh

I assume that your 1000kg is = to 1000 grams and is not = to a Mg (a tonne)

Potential energy of suspended mass expressed in kWh

It does not look better to me. Superstitiously, I have avoided horse power units. I prefer to work in metric terms where values relate to natural constants and not arbitrary thumb length.

I call BS, but I can deal with it. I downloaded the guide to internl units pdf. Some very useful info in there. Thanks.

Potential energy of suspended mass expressed in kWh

Okie dokie. The following conversion factor is used if mass is expressed in grams. Otherwise, SI use dictates con fact 3,600. Seem logical?

Potential energy of suspended mass expressed in kWh

That may very well be the correct answer. 29,400 / 3,600 = 8.17kWHr. I can more easily visualize using a constant flow of 1kW for 8 hours (something like an eight amp, 115V motor plus some mechanical advantage [gear heads] for 8 hours and lifting mass the predetermined height. Can ya FEEL me? ;~)

Potential energy of suspended mass expressed in kWh

The reason I did another division of 1000 is bc, as I see it, 3,600,000 joules = 1kWHr. That factor of 1000 is skewed when working in SI units. If m is in the equation as kilograms (SI) then you would intuitively divide by 3,600 instead of 3,600,000. Looking for the definitive answer as to how m...

Potential energy of suspended mass expressed in kWh

Cool beans. I do think you are correct about kilo abbreviation. kWHr not KWHr. You have me wondering about hour now. I prefer Hr but the community rarely yields to my personal preference. Hz I'm pretty sure is convention.

Potential energy of suspended mass expressed in kWh

Odd thing I am trying to get a handle on, is, from physics help forum, when you see a general formula i.e. PE = mgh, one is to assume that mass will be entered in SI units. I am going to make a WAG here and speculate that the slide rule generation brought about the change whereas the kg is the...

How do I delete alerts from the alert list?

I think I see the difference. Using the accompanying box is like replying to the thread whereas clicking the reply prompt is making a reply to an individual comment. I joined only 3 years ago. These things take time, ya know. : )

How do I delete alerts from the alert list?

Perhaps I was not logged out long enough, as all alerts were still displayed on a new login. Until now, when I was to make a reply, I would click on reply prompt, new text box appeared, clicked post reply, and done. For whatever reason, I had not noticed the text box that accompanies one's post...

Another issue that may affect radio comm is the fact that an inch and a quarter steel pipe will be sharing this hole.
