    Denon AVR-1912 E2/EA

I think your probably right that it's Ok. The in-ckt leakage may be an inductor or similar component throwing off the reading. Best of luck on the surgery and a speedy recovery. In the meantime, let someone else do the reading for you. Regards, John

Welcome home Michael. Hopefully the new transistors will enjoy their home too.

Wiring buttons or switches to turn certain things on

I've got a switch on the wall that turns on a receptacle the powers my Xbox, monitor and peripherals. No, it doesn't boot it up automatically but you need to pick up the remote to do anything anyway. When no one is using the room I just flip the switch off on the way out. I hate when Xbox or...

Wiring buttons or switches to turn certain things on

Sure, provided it follows your local electrical codes. If you want to use small compact low voltage switches, you could use rib relays to do the heavy switching.

    Tinkering with my stereo

That's why I suggested moving same speaker to different outputs. Also try it with a mono input so the output will be the same.

    Tinkering with my stereo

I can't quite tell from pics. I have seen where strands of speaker wire will break off and get into the Jack's and short to ground. You might want to remove the board along speaker jacks to look at the underside. Maybe yank out the A/B switch also. Its a strong suspect, although I would...

    Tinkering with my stereo

Try posting a few clear photos of the components on the back side of the speaker jacks and the A/B switch. Perhaps that will lend some clues. All the A/B switch should do is reroute the signal to the corresponding speaker jacks without altering the audio. Perhaps a shorted cap is taking out your...

    CD Player Won't read disc

Start by cleaning the dust off the laser head. I use alcohol solution and tissues used for cleaning eye glasses. My cd play took a crap shortly after I was standing drywall compound. They don't like dust.

    scroll saw blowing fuses

Post some pictures of the pcb and wiring. Perhaps we can help without costing you beer vouchers? On this side of the pond, its illegal to fuse the neutral (intentionally grounded) line. It wouldn't change your circuit operation, but could present a safety concern. How long does it go without...

    Questions regarding H-bridge

Yes. You get the idea. The high value resistor ensures the transistor turns off by pulling down gate voltage when it's off instead of floating. If the gates were grounded, then they couldn't be turned on because it'd be a voltage to ground short. The H-bridge is designed to simply change...

    scroll saw blowing fuses

The 5amp fuse sounds reasonable as it's only rated at 120watts. Make sure it doesn't require a time delay fuse (and you might be using a fast acting fuse), but Yes, it sounds like a short. You could disconnect the motor and check the resistance of the windings. You could also see if it blows...

Zoom GFX-5 guitar pedal - no power

In other words, if you are getting good voltage reading along positive traces, next try the negative rail traces with respect to positive to see if you are losing it along the neg rail somewhere.

Zoom GFX-5 guitar pedal - no power

I would plug in your power adaptor and check voltage at the jack terminals, establish which pins are positive and neg with your meter. Keeping the black negative meter lead there (first node), move your pos (red) lead along the traces until you find the point where you loose power. Then, swap...

LED light: 120V and 25watts vs 12Volts and 25 watts: whats the difference?

Duly noted folks. Please forgive my transgressions. I will try to be more careful with the terms. (But old habits die hard) Terms like "power outlet" (receptacle) lend to the confusion. It's widely misinterpreted as meaning; an outlet that supplies power. In fact, its an outlet or that...

LED light: 120V and 25watts vs 12Volts and 25 watts: whats the difference?

Let's not get pedantic on this one. Thinking of a watt as energy(consumed) is what was trying to be conveyed to help the op understand. I get kellys_eye's usage of the word "energy" although not technically correct.

    Denon AVR-1912 E2/EA

I guess the specs sheet from the manufacture would be the best place to look for acceptable esr values. The huge discrepancy with the esr charts must be because there are so many different types of caps. I would like to learn more on the subject of esr values myself.

    Denon AVR-1912 E2/EA

Good question, I usually just look up an esr chart or two as a reference. I recommend looking at several charts because the resistance values can vary widely. Note the values change depending on the voltage rating of the same uf value cap. You can usually check esr in circuit but capacitance...

LED light: 120V and 25watts vs 12Volts and 25 watts: whats the difference?

Good explanation @hevans1944, but I think @kamas may not be clear on some definitions. To put it another simple way; Watts is the power consumed by the light circuit, not the power available at the source. The voltage choices given are for the convenience of what circuit you plan to hook it up...

    Denon AVR-1912 E2/EA

Adobe won't list I agree, Dries has been very helpful. ...So Michael, you've checked all the electrolytic caps and they all tested good with low esr values? If you've found questionable ones, it's not a bad idea to just replace them all in that section. They are likely nearing the end of...
