    Help identifying resistor

    A 5W is perfectly ok in place of say, a .25W. It’s still the same value. I believe the question about space and being visible means, will a larger resistor fit albeit standing up or even laying at at angle?.

    I would hazard a guess that a short circuit happened somewhere across the batteries. Possibly just a stray strand across the screw terminals. This would also explain the ‘no light’ in the controller when the final battery was inserted. Could also be the battery holder has shorted somewhere. Have...

    You don’t test a rectifier with AC!. Use your multimeter on diode test or Ohms range. Martin

    @kellys_eye thinks it’s a 51 Ohm resistor. You put a 100 Ohm resistor in. Put two of your 100 Ohm resistors in parallel to give you 50 Ohms. But as previously stated, if the bridge rectifier is open, it won’t work. For the last time, check the rectifier (DB). Martin

    You said “the light works” “but nothing else”. If the lights circuitry is not through the bridge and one or more diodes in the bridge are open circuit, anything fed from the bridge, will not function. Check DB. Martin

    Yes of course. I also omitted the fact that clips leave your hands free to probe elsewhere or make adjustments in equipment. IMHO, a necessity for any budding enthusiast. I also made many of varying colours for a couple of £. The silicone wire was the expensive part. Martin

    You have to pay for quality. Once clipped to a component leg, they won’t ‘slip’ like probes can. Martin
