    halving your current needs means smaller conductors and cheaper prices. Plus you already have a 96V generator, what would you do with it if you needed to charge a 48V battery bank?

    resistor rating help

    I believe it is the voltage that you will be reducing to control the fan speed. With that said, you will need to figure out the voltage drop across the resistor to figure out it's power requirements. I am not sure I know how to figure that value when motors are involved.

    1. I don't think so, the idea is clearly to prevent too much current. 2. No. The power dissipated by a resistor is the voltage across it times the current through it. The more power being dissipated the bigger the power rating of the resistor to make sure it doesn't release smoke.
