    Programming languages and MC selection.

The 'chip' version have bootloaders pre-installed and the datasheet will advise the pinout to use for programming purposes. I believe (citation needed) that you can do this in-circuit in the same way as ICSP on PICs..... <edit> you beat me to it! The device should have a data sheet available...

    Programming languages and MC selection.

You CAN use the Arduino as a stand-alone device. They are sold as 'chips' in DIP packages - the ATMega328 device. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ATMEGA328P-PU-Microcontrolle-r-With-ARDUINO-UNO-R3-Bootloader-good-quality/292732458291?hash=item442836d533:g:tPgAAOSwTw5boJg1 The fact that they are...

    Rewiring Power supply. Noob question

Second pin down doesn't seem properly seated..... Doubling up on the wiring would normally be ok - I've seen this done on ordinary dual HDD power cables many times - but find out the total amperage for all the HDDs in use first. Many modern drives have very low actual power requirements so the...

    For Sale: Sony Trinitron KV-25XBRII

....eerrrr all colour CRTs have three guns........ Trinitrons were noted for their use of a slotted shadow mask tube rather than conventional 'dots' of other manufacturers which gave a brighter image. Additionally they had the three guns in a 'line' rather than arranged in a 'triangle' like...

    Unknown capacitor.

A 'sort of' CTR value is shown in fig 3 on page 4 of the data sheet. It shows collector-emitter voltage and collector current (in the transistor) for values of If in the LED. At 4mA If you should see 0.4mA (give or take - I can't read the graph that accurately) in the collector of the...

loss of volume control on Awia receiver # av-dv76u

Sounds like the 'earth' end of the volume control has broken away from the circuit board. Take it apart and inspect the area around the volume control pins and re-solder the joints.

    Unknown capacitor.

Any time you find some half-way decent equipment that looks capable of lasting many years in operation I agree, it is a wise move to investigate any areas where failure may let the device down and see what you could do to keep it working. The zener failure is quite typical of where problems...

It is a TV set - the foot pedal stand is a pedeSTAL stand! Some word confusion there!

    How determine fuse amperage?

If your mains plug doesn't have a fuse and the fuse you're referring to is on the MAINS side of the supply then the fuse should be rated to 'save the mains cable' and not the equipment. If the cable is 1.0mm2 then any fuse up to 3A or 5A will work. It's not as if the fuse can possibly 'save'...

    Unknown capacitor.

I don't know why you're worried over the 3k3 resistor issue. Presumably the board worked prior to the power supply failure? Presumably the 3k3 resistor is still 3k3Ω (i.e. hasn't changed)? Given the manufacturers would have designed the board to actually 'work' with the 3k3 resistor - and it...

    Old philips pm3310

Power supply issues. There is an X-class capacitor across the mains input that has a habit of 'exploding' and the electrolytics in the PSU module should really be changed. It's a nice 'scope to work on - if you know what you're doing..... There is full documentation on the web for that 'scope...

Impact activated LEDs in a prop

You could hack the insides of the Fire Fly jar and fit the parts into the stick...... ...but there are many sound-sensitive, motion-sensitive, vibration-sensitive switches (knock detectors) and schematics for them on the web. Add a simple 'tilt' switch to apply power only when the stick is...

Question contact slot and contact conector snes

Never use your console. Put it away in a box. Keep it at 20oC, in a nitrogen atmosphere, in a locked bank vault with a time switch set to the year 2525. or USE IT. You are likely to die before the console does. Please stop asking repetitive and circular questions.

New components tests, vs Old components tests

A triac is (basically) two thyristors mounted back-to-back. A thyristor only conducts over one half cycle of an AC waveform whereas the triac conducts over both cycles (positive and negative). There is a procedure for testing such components and if your test meter doesn't follow this procedure...

    Questions TV CRT

We've had this 'what the life expectancy' thing from you in your 'cartridge' thread. What with the obsession? Things wear out. No point in worrying about it - deal with it when it happens. It's far easier to address the issues that age creates than to try to alleviate it as an ongoing...

    Recapping pc motherboards.

Quite often it is easier and less damaging to simply 'crush' and snip/remove the remains of the old capacitor and solder a new one to the leads that remain. Not pretty but it works. Depends on how proficient you get with the desoldering tool. Personally I would remove the capacitor using the...
