    So I got pictures and they look great except for the via's being left untented. I foresee some difficulty with soldering possibly. I am quite surprised that they were left open like that! Otherwise I think they look pretty good! Should I ask them to tent or just ship as is?

    Excellent point steve! The tip of the bulb is frosted at its top, presumably to get more light to exit around the middle. I don't know what the compartment looks like, but I would imagine that its lined with reflectors of some sort. Why do you think it would only need to be operated at 1/2...

    Does the contact connect all three batteries? If so, then I would assume that the device requires 4.5vdc. I don't quite understand what the teacher is saying, using different power from each battery?? If the contact connects all three, then you only have to worry about providing a clean source...

    I just found the capacitor to solder on to the backside - 0603 size... holy cow that is small! The bent lead transistor worked out fine, just had to reorient it on the board. File away!

    Parts came in today :D - the transistor was a different form factor than expected, I have to redo a small section of the pcb. The transistor came with cranked legs? Basically the three legs are in line with each other, but the outer ones look like they have a ~22.5 deg bend towards the outside.
