    Just don't use a fuse that is OVER rated i.e. no more than the recommended 1.25A. The voltage rating is likely to be irrelevant. If the fuse blows again then you'll need professional help to get it fixed unless you're prepared to wield a soldering iron and test meter.....

    In what way 'bad' - a motor will test as good as a 'short-circuit' under even normal measuring techniques. Just apply power to the motor directly (battery?) and see if it does as it should.

    A wide picture of the area would help but generally you can take wires from across the main input smoothing capacitor straight to the power jack.

    It's probably a 2SB772 given the way those numbering system go and the datasheet I found for that one seems correct too. The device has blown quite spectacularly indicating other issues apart from the destroyed device - can you post a wider picture of the area?

    Agree - no point in trying to dismantle the original circuit board when a new, complete, bridge is so readily available. Are you intending to steer using separate wheel speeds or through conventional steering (rack/pinion kind of thing)?

    One terminal may be 5V, the other ground - in which case it will reflect the 'pull low' requirement to switch it on (i.e. short the pins). Easy to check and the most likely of designs.

    Do you know if the new device is 'active low'? Simple enough to measure the potential on the old wires to see what you get. Worst case is you'll have to 'invert' the signal (and maybe clamp the level if it exceeds TTL voltages), in which case use the appropriate inverter-driver chip (LS04?)...
