    You may be able to get a scrap unit from ebay or someplace to replace the paddle. Electrically, they were built pretty well. If you have a problem in the future, suspect the old electrolytic capacitors (and of course dirty/tarnished old connector contacts) first. Good to see that you got it going

    That's probably a 'tantalum' cap, not titanium. They're usually epoxy dipped solid tantalum and they don't like voltage spikes like you'd find in a car alternator circuit.
